Sorry to say that Leighton and Crozier are probably saying if you want a one week strike or longer then go for it. They are also saying a one day strike is fine we have ways of handling this and the public won't feel the pinch.

Last one day strike got coverage, but I didn't hear much in the press about business or consumer dissatisfaction.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, maybe you see it differently if you read the socialistworker?

You could feel the difference in the offices, week before the strike doms inour area were threatening to impose summer savings, last week the said when asked they were discussing the issue, now they have decided to push it throughthe industrial relations framework etc.

according to my branch sec 5000 new workers joined the union in the campaign up to the strike.

And there is no alternative to royal mail:

Royal Mail threatens second postal strik - 5th July 2007

Bulk mailers are bracing themselves for another potential postal strike, which could happen as soon as next Thursday (12 July).

The news comes after Postcomm refused Royal Mail's request to suspend the payment of compensation to bulk mail customers for two years following Royal Mail's recent strike. Instead it will suspend payment until the end of the financial year.

In a statement on its website, the Direct Mail Association (DMA) said it was exploring alternative postal options for customers.

It stated: "Hopefully this industrial action won't last long. In spite of competition, there are only very limited opportunities to use another operator for delivery to customers.

"If it [the industrial action] looks likely to continue then the DMA will actively explore other viable options for members."

Royal Mail said it has well-developed contingency plans that it will put into place in the event of any action and that it "will do everything possible to minimise the impact on customers in the event of further strike action".

Robert Keitch, DMA director of media channel development, said that as long as the strikes didn't continue for prolonged periods, there wouldn't be a serious effect on the industry.

"There's been a fairly low-level impact on the industry, but if it's sustained and ongoing, it will not do us any good. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the world didn't end with the strike last week."

The first national postal strike in 11 years took place on Friday 29 June and since then there has been little movement on negotiations.

The strikes kicked off after talks broke down between Royal Mail and the Communications Workers' Union (CWU) over plans to modernise the service. The core issue was a 2.5% pay deal, which Royal Mail claimed it is not prepared to change.

The CWU said it would officially announce today (5 July) whether it will start new strikes, which reports suggest might span several days in different areas of the country.

1 dayers are cack....CWU heres my advice, try something else before the strikes implode and make us look like fools when they fail.... because the mood im seeing in my mail centre is that more people have openly admitted they are gonna work the next strike.. mainly money issues (big mortgages and credit cards these days man) and also the morale for strike action seems to be dipping because of f***ing fools (so im told) who are still using cars etc on walks, (also i see people on nights coming in early on their own time and setting areas up WTF!!!!!).... behaviour like that is pissing me off because i dont even believe in strike action yet im losing f***ing money by doing what i thought was the right thing and backing the majority decision..... BULLSHIT!

CWU if you have got more strikes planned lets just f***ing go for it and whack em all in together f**k this im getting sick .... i dont fancy struggling like f**k for next months mortgage payments for the sake of UN-NOTICABLE one dayers!!!! NO ONE GAVE A TOSS the mail was a day late, NOW........ no mail for a week........people will take notice!!!!! We will lose the same pay as taking seperate one dayers in the long run. DO IT get it out of the way .....cos i feel people crumbling ALREADY!!!

But if we dont fight this together MONEY WILL GET TIGHTER.... its all there to see.. The end of the job as we know it. for the worse or we fight now and then at least we can say we had our say as MEN AND WOMEN AND NOT ANIMALS AND DOWN TRODDEN IDIOTS THAT DONT MIND THAT RM TREAT THEM THIS WAY...

what for?

Post by postmangnu »

I hav the feeling that this strike has losing written all over it. I think Dave Ward has made a big mistake saying it s a strike abou the Royal Mail business plan, because it looks as if the union wants to run everything. So the management dont want to give in and they seem to have backing from the newspapers and the government. It shjould have been a strike just about our pay rise. All we are doing now is losing pay rather than gaining it and I dont see that any business will give in to a union that wants to throw out its business plan, whatever we might think of it?

Exactly!! The union have made this clear that its about the business plan and not a pay rise, therefore theres no way i can see RM backing down ESPECIALLY over poxy one dayers!!!, it would be suicide on their part to give in on something so big so easily , not taking their side here lads... just being a realist!!!!

Tommo im agreeing with everything u have said there mate no bother...its the one dayers that have got my back up....TOTALLY POINTLESS hate losing pay over an ineffective solution grrr.....

New strategy required imo.

ONE DAYERS..

Post by L Tommo »

If anyone thinks a week of strikes will help then put this up to HQ and Dave Ward... GET as many posties together and sign a form saying so.... Then you will be doing something constructive.. Not just crying off when the battle is just starting..... WOT OTHER OPTION HAVE WE...? KEEP TO OUR MORALS AND BACK THE VOTE WE ALL HAD A SAY IN OR BACK OFF AND LET RM WALK ALL OVER YOU AND YOU RIGHTS?>???? I know which im doing and it aint backing down.... Some people follow the Propaganda and some stand up and are counted... Which will you do??????
Im a realist and i know we will never win IF PEOPLE BACK OUT AFTER ONEDAY THEN YOU HAVE LOST YOUR WILL TO LIVE AS PEOPLE HAVE GIVEN THERE LIVES FOR RIGHTS AND DEMOCRATIC VOTES... SO one day strikes are a small price to pay for our rights and jobs for the future.. DONT YOU THINK????

MADSORTER :mad Totally agree with your statement . Feedback general banter in my office most people say onedayers no good at all :nana Instead of five one dayers lets have a week. Get it over and done with ? Joe Public will see he has to pay extra on his bills as not paid on time! Harry Potter sitting in sorting office singing "Please release me let me go" As all the mums and dads have had to get off there asses down to the book shop  TNT and DHL warehouses full of mail to the roof. :nana Bank statements delivered late. "Whoops didn,t realise i was that much overdrawn, more charges" Council tax balifs knocking at door :mad " I never got letter" Then maybe someone might sit up and say "hey not the posties fault, just those berks in management"

I do believe if we had weeks out we would loose favour with the public who, at the moment, are
on our side.
I don't like one dayers but the union are trying to keep everyone happy.
There are too many selfish run around-ers who ruin the job and lessen the effect of the one day strikes. :mad
And they're the b*******s that moan the most.

I've heard similar grumblings in the office about one day strikes. People who the next day will come in to work, complain about losing a day's pay and then having to take that day's work out over the week for nothing. These grumblers are the very same people who will work their bollocks off to make sure they get that mail took. I've tried explaining that they should cut off, and some say "yeah, we'll have to" but they carry on doing that little bit of overtime that helps RM out of the s**t all the same. What is needed is a lead from the Union, to help those people find the little bit of the backbone they need to go into the gaffers office and say "working to my time today." Without that lead, it is not going to happen, and the effectiveness of our action is diminished to the point that the management line -- so ably voiced by postmangnu -- starts to work on people. We need to be telling our union what we want - we pay their bloody wages after all, not the other way around. Perhaps we could all e-mail them or petition or just badger our rep so that the message get through.

Rocky is right. No one is saying stop doing things you're scheduled to do , like collections etc. The only thing we should be doing is the job right. Start at normal time, work your hours. If that means you going over then book it. Remember, like rocky says, docket costs RM more money.
On the day after the strike you'll see every D.O failing, cutting off the IPS early just to get staff out on time. It's the Monday when it hurts and DUMs are crying out for you to work over. By the way, we failed on the Monday after the last strike too because we were stubborn and like to see our DUM get it in the neck.

One dayers imo are not enough ammo to take RM down with, hit em hard and fast, not softly and drawn out. Tommo im taking your comments on board man and will fire off my suggestions in an email to hq see what happens so i am at least trying to put my thoughts into some form of action!! :nana

But my honest opinion is that this string of one dayers isnt gonna do enough damage and people are gonna dwindle off and cross the line after a few more..THEN it may be too late to propose a 5 dayer as many people may think they have lost enough pay already!!! What do u reckon lets be honest lads if you think one dayers are a load of shite speak up , or show me how they are gonna work ....please....

Imagine leightons face if when the 1st strike was announced and he was smugly expecting 1 day, and a big 5 dayer was thrown in his face!!! THAT would of been the ultimate warning that the CWU MEANS BUSINESS!!!!

GOOD MAN MADSORTER.. Crack on with the comments and opinions to HQ.
I do think a week of IA would hit RM full in the pocket and neck. Im just thinking how the public would act as No Union has withdrawn there labour for that amount of time in one go for over 20 odd years.. I myself would back this action and i hear the anxious feelings of posties up n down the country but lets keep strong and keep all our spirits up and ready for the fight as we see it now... IF we need to up the anti then your opinions to Dave Ward and HQ will and should be taken seriously... A week would let everyone know we mean business!!!!!!!

BRING WHAT EVER ON RM AS WE WILL FIGHT YOU TOOTH AND NAIL... WE CANT LET THIS SLIP WE CANT JUST ROLL OVER NOW AND ADMIT DEFEAT..
WE HAVE TO ALL STAND AND BE COUNTED....

OUT
