Posties or management?

I see on the news this morning, that a new survey by Consumer Focus is showing that half of those 'sorry you were out' slips delivered by posties because things are too big to get through our letterboxes, were shoved through the door when people were in.

The response by the Royal Mail is to repeat the mantra that this is against company policy and that any post person found sticking these notes through the door without ringing - and judging from the report - without even carrying the parcel to the door - will be disciplined.

So - if the Royal Mail is so s**t hot on clamping down on this practise - how come it is such a common experience? During this so-called disciplining - are posties noses growing longer?

Or is it the management - not really walking the talk? I am tabling a Parliamentary Question to find out how many disciplinary actions have been taken in each delivery office over each of the last three years.

The Royal Mail needs to show us that it is an exemplar service right at the moment when the battle for survival is so fierce. We love our Royal Mail - but we need them to shape up - otherwise they will write their own obituary.

Not all of the cases but I bet a large amount is that the Postie DID knock and ring the bell but the customer did not hear it and claims there was no call. I would be a rich man if I had a £1 for the amount of times I have been chased down the road by people clutching their 739's.

"No you didn't, where's my parcel?"

"It's right here, being an inconvience in my bag, adding weight and taking up space."

And thats the point. Do the customers really think I would prefer to write a 739 out after waiting a few minutes then slip the parcel in my bag and go on my way? No, obviously I would prefer to ring the bell, knock and hand over the parcel.

Problem is though, you cannot expect us to wait at the door for around five minutes while you eventually wake up and stumble out of bed, get dressed, try the door, hunt for the keys, try the door again, realize you have the wrong key and finally open the door

One women said she was reporting me because I rang the bell then knocked which woke her baby up. We really cannot win.

you get the regulars who come to the door after you have been 5 mins in the rain ,they look like they have had a session down the boozer or like kevin in the young ones ,when they reply thanks man like they are from the 70s when they are a spotty faced teenager on the cannabis.but the real piss take is half the doorbells dont work.

Exactly, and in your instance they'll be some of the ones complaining. Missing out, or course, the fact it took them that long to even appear.

for me the p739 thing is when the driver has been unable to get access to shared stair or tenement block then i deliver p739 next day, then the customer comes to the door and says "i in why didnt you knock on door the ,can i have my packet".this happens all the time that i mark on the card no entry to stair! and van number at bottom of card ."well how did you get in the stair" they ask "cos i have a key" i reply."how come the driver cant use the key"they ask "because then none of the 12 residents would get any mail as i would need it myself ,anyway if you could be arsed to put your name on the enrty phone system you might have got it yesterday" .about time the drivers had their own cards OUR DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO DELIVER A PACKET TO YOU BUT WAS UNABLE TO GAIN ENTRY,WAS TO BIG FOR YOUR LETTERBOX ECT

Had a classic 2 days ago...Bloke came into our callers office from real posh part of our patch (south coast - God's waiting room) Demanding to see manager he had come to collect 'very important' recorded delivery he had been in all morning awaiting said item and had never heard or seen postman and kept saying my bell is loud enough to wake the hounds of hell. Spoke to the postie next day and he said the bell never works and he had hammered on the door but the boke never came. Next day he comes in for another item I just happened to mention to him that his postie had mentioned the broken doorbell. He went all quiet and said never mind about that wheres my item..... . I think Lynne needs to check her facts before persuing this particular line of enquiry

Smear - RM haven't got the vans & the staff so the parcels stay in the office as management have cut past the bone to line their pockets with bonuses for savings , also they've fiddled the timing of the overloaded rounds so there isn't the time if parcels / packets are taken out .

Not to say it's all RM

He has no experience himself.... its fine him talking the talk, I would like to see him get off his lazy fat arse and do a walk in the time with all the extras That he is asking, day in day out, rain shine, infact he don't give a s**t about any of us .

I could not believe it when he said about us being paid for the hours we do... Bollocks.....I am certain HE does not work the hours he should and what value does he add to our customers...f**k All.
