I reckon the FT PT duties were about equal at our place until one PTer started moaning, dragging their feet and handing back, they had a couple of streets removed, now there are quite a few at it, and the gaffer is scared s***less of them.

Re: What determines a Full time or Part time walk?
Any part-timers who regularly work beyond their contracted hours, e.g. 30 hour guys regular work their day off plus any other O/T, should be looking at having their contract raised to 40 hours anyway!
All our part-timers deliver duties, no ips, minimal prep.

PT 25 hrs.. I do everything except IPS. A couple of the walks I do have a little prep done before I start, as they are more compact walks, so have more houses, which takes longer to prep. All walks are meant to be the same FT and PT, but I think rurals maybe have less houses as they have more driving. FT start earlier and do IPS, some drop off part timers bags. I often deliver to FTer's houses, nowhere near finished, and they are in having their lunch.

No what happens is, Royal mail make a fortune (literally) of the back of PART-TIMERS who rarely if ever work a basic 20 hr week! Agency staffing is so much more accomodating to managerial targets, Less sick pay, Less Holiday, Less rights, Less extra bonuses, management can easily didle with the truth and the books with the concerning growing army of PART-TIME agency staff..
My personal favourite is when management send a part timer to another office and then omit to tell their employee he/she is entitled to travel time alowance or fuel allowance for traveling from their own home to another office? This happens more than you think guys

All walks in our office full time even if its done by a part timer, even the duty sheet shows the full time hours breakdown. Its just a paper trail really to save £'s using PT instead of full time but still showing ft walks.

Re: What determines a Full time or Part time walk?
I'm a PT doing what a FT used to do, except for 1/2 hour each day delivering to firms, so I basically am expected to do in 28 hrs what used to take a FT 35 hrs, I also have to work Saturdays, the FT got every Saturday off, in six months I've not had a scheduled Saturday off, it's always a Friday or a Thursday.
But at least i get offered loads of schedules and parts of walks as a bit of excess to make my pay up to a decent take home amount

Re: What determines a Full time or Part time walk?
I think I touched on this before when I started a topic but never really got any real closure. A full timer knows that his day is made up of IPS, framework and the actual walk, obviously there will be slight variations office to office to compensate for different priorities etc. It seems a lot of part timers are being taken advantage of, 25 hours to do what used to take 35 or 40 hours? Surely there should be some sort of list of duties to be done in a given time, for some it almost seems like a different form of absorbtion, for some poor sods even worse. Do the CWU not have a policy for fairness regarding this. Full timers have it bad enough with absorption and who would ever be tempted to go down to part time with some of the stories you read on here, not much of an incentive!!

Whatever hrs the part timer is on is what they should work if they dont want more hrs, even if it means mass cuttings off.realitybites wrote:I think I touched on this before when I started a topic but never really got any real closure. Easy for me to say i know but if anyone is part time and they have done their trial and are permanant then the world is their oyster.
Unfortunatly the newbies have to take serious s**t which is where the reps and full timers have to step in.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Still cant get my head round these p/t duties, At the end of the day the delivery span is still the same whether its f/t or p/t, the only differance being the indoor work done by the f/timers, so why the need?

Who does the D2Ds on these p/t walks?[/quote]
When we had a revision 2 weeks ago i asked how many walks were to be put aside for P/T the DSM told me none .
We went down the seniority list and allocated walks that way .We now have 49 walks in our office and until we got to 42 on the seniority list all were F/T so we have a very small number of P/T walks i would say less than 6. It is only these P/T duty holders that do there own D2DS if time permits but as for the rest of the P/Ts none of them do d2ds. The cover men for all the walks in our office do not do 20% of the d2ds either they are left for the duty holder.
