At the end of the day I'm paid to deliver the mail to the address stipulated on the front. If it's non existent it's not my problem. I understand what everyone says about that householder mght be grateful to get the letter after we have taken and extra 10 minutes of our duty time to locate. Do RM want us to do this. I doubt it as the margin on said letter is so low anyway then to waste our duty time doing the customers job is ridculous. It's time people used common sense and realised that if they don't care enough to know where the letter should be delivered to why the hell
should we. We are in the RM of 2009 now not 10/20 years ago when it was a public service.

Whatever happend to learning all of your office area?

Kill off zone - we have to do ours ourselves - which presents the exact opposite problem - the badly addressed ones keep bouncing from walk to walk till some mug, usually me, kills it off.

thats great but i have 900 calls, all tenement stairsSuperlonghurst wrote:No but you will be thanked by the person when you get it to the right address. I've managed to get all but one delivered so far, one this morning had come from New Zealand with no number just the block of flats name, city, post code and addressed to granny ****. I've seen an old dear on my round get the odd item from New Zealand in the past so I gave her a knock and success, she was thrilled and thanked me repeatedly for getting it to her. It's doing a little bit extra like that which sets us apart from the competition.mydaily wrote:I couldn't be bothered with it all this morning so killed off 27 cards at the end of day it's not our problem they are addressed wron. Will eb by thanked by RM for taking time to trace them? No.
It's really not that hard to check when you get a chance, if needs be leave them until a day when you get a few mins spare to flick through the letters on that road or use your loaf and if it says no 350 on a road with only 60 houses check numbers 3, 5, 30, 35, 50 etc
the level of wrong/misaddressed stuff on tenements normally is ridiculous but at xmas it just gets stupid
i can have 100+ a day easy

Re: Incomplete addresses
The duty I was on, and knew most of the customers on that round was lapsed in the summer, since then there has been nothing but complaints about mail through wrong doors and re-directions not being done, now been put back on the duty over christmas, tips totally out of the question but I am still doing my best to mail misdirected mail to the right address as I would not like my mail to be killed off for the sake of a wrong number, cometo thin about I had mail killed off and sent back for no reason, the postie just couldnt be bothered posting it!

Re: Incomplete addresses
that's great but they are not the customer it's the person who wrote the letter wrong and put the stamp on who are the customers. Therefore they have no rights for us to waste time and money. Hear what you are saying about service but that's really is in the past now. Imagine me telling my DOM I'm cutting off today they say why, well it's because I've have spent 30 minutes trying to find where to deliver 4 letters. You can imagine the response. I work 5 hours a day if people want the letters delivered during that time they should take more care and ensure it's is fully addressed and correct postage on before posting it. You would not go into McDonalds and buy a burger which is till frozen and the expect to then cook it yourself would you. I know it's a bit far fetched that example but you get the point.linkinpark wrote:I will always try to do right by my customers.

Re: Incomplete addresses
I must add that it's not just the general public that get addresses wrong it's big business to. We recently hand a mailing in our office which we all killed off as not one letter was correctly printed only name and postcode. So using people arguments for serving people you would locate every single one then. btw I had over 150 of them some duties had 400, or does that not count for mail from a business - that be double standards and a bit hypocritcal as may be someone really wanted that letter to?
Just a thought!
It took long enough to kill them off let alone locate stret and house numbers.

I generally go by the rule that if the address is hand written, and it has a stamp, then I will have a little look for the customer. If it's buisness mail, then they should know better.

Re: Incomplete addresses
We've always done out owm killers, at least for the 13 years i've been there anyway. We also have to sort them into an OPS frame.custard wrote:TrueBlueTerrier wrote:General Mannerheim wrote:I`m currently doing the kill offs and I can`t get over how s**t the staff are at sorting these days, sure they know there own small area but anything else without a postcode(even though it`s the same town) gets shoved off onto the kill off zone as a matter of fact.

Quite right mate, i'm with you ...linkinpark wrote:Its Royal Mail that say the people i serve are not my customers but the banks and stamp buyers ect that are and i say B*LLS its just another RM lie! RM is a public service that belongs to ALL of us so each and every one of us is a customer, RM are just playing with words as an excuse to downgrade their true obligation! It started when they wished RM to be called a business rather than a service because people just expect a business to give a lower level of service than a public service does hence TNT DHL ect and the rip off shabby service they try to provide on the cheap at the expence of workers and public. The thing for me is to try, i might not succeed all the time but i will try because i dont buy into the whole huge RM lie about our serviuce so wont help them downgrade it even further than they already have.

Same here, I will even spend time looking across the frame to find the name.

Re: Incomplete addresses
The last christmas we had a nightshift, we found about 100 killed off christmas cards on the kill off table, with our own local knowledge, a phone directory and a old copy of the electoral register we managed to get it down to 10 even found one addressed to me. We used to get an electoral register every year, but that stopped as did the postcode book.

Re: Incomplete addresses
So you all say that I should be looking to find where they go everyday. No chance as I have a mainly council area with quick turnover or residents 5/6 diff names on the post for most addresses 50% of my frame are double addresses and finally I only have two streets with less than 100 houses. Well that's will leave me only an hour or tel max to deliver the rest. Who's gonna tell my DOM thaw why I'm cutting of 75% of my duty some days and I'm not taking the piss with him?
The same point still is it's not our job anymore!
