Re: The Busiest Day
Spoke to one of the managers in the MC yesterday, they've had approx 1.2m items in every day and they have'nt got enough staff. Next week is going to be a lot worse for us in deliveries. I'm going in tomorrow for 5 hours, I really ought to start saving for xmas
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Re: The Busiest Day
I got a better idea than shooting them - give them a pouch, pair of Magnums, hi-vis, handful of 739s, a 4.5hr delivery, 5hrs to tie up and deliver and a big bunch of lightbulbs on top of 80 - 90kgs of mail and packets.....that way, they learn not to be so fecking silly next time!Grinder64 wrote:Bearing in mind the amount of those shitting lightbulbs we had today (and I got off lightly compared to some who had literally dozens!) I'd say today edged it in terms of sheer volume. Who the hell negotiated the contract for those things AT THIS TIME OF YEAR ffs!!!
They need shooting...
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Re: The Busiest Day
We had a night-shift in last night, as we do every Friday as it's part of our Saturday workplan. Not that it really helped! Instead of sending through "shut-out vans" the Edinburgh MC sent through an arctic instead! Two of them!
I was day-off yesterday and went back into a streamed frame and a bag and a half of packets before todays extra 4 bags!
While bundling up, had asked the manager what he wanted me to do with the mountain of packets on top of my frame.
His response was don't take anything that requires you to knock on a door! If it doesn't fit through their letterbox don't take it.
I enquired that this would mean leaving 1st class dated items. His response? We will deal with that situation on Monday!
Is it just me or is there not a point where your office and it's duties reach a saturation point! ie where it is fool hardy or down right stupidity to continue sorting mail, when for a start you wouldn't be able to throw a cigarette paper into your frame as it's that full! The packets are piled so high on top of your frame that if they fall off you are in danger of serious injury!
A simpler way would surely be to remove or cut-off the arriving mail and date it, to allow the guys to clear the backlog in front of them, and then deal with the mail in a date order sequence? The only exception being special delivery and tracked items.
We currently have over 7 full yorks of vagues in our office aswell, which has no hope of being dealt with due to the current attitude of the management, due to the above situation.
Another point. Why oh why is this the latest we have ever started Christmas Arrangements?
Is this another ploy by senior management as the mail is going down?

Re: The Busiest Day
Why are people paying 1st class prices to have their mail lying about the D.O. We got told to stop IPS and get on our frames leaving trays of 1st,2nd and dsa for Monday in the hope we would'nt cut-off
no points for quessing what most of the office done.

At least you're getting some OT. We've always had diversion work from the MC, but this year absolutely nothing. The only ones getting anything are the ones that came in during the strike, they have been put on nights and are doing their walks on OT as well.Stormproof wrote:Spoke to one of the managers in the MC yesterday, they've had approx 1.2m items in every day and they have'nt got enough staff. This morning we got hammered, but they didn't have to go on IPS because they 'were on overtime' - managers quote. funny how when everyone else is on OT you do the bloody duty you're paid for and that includes going on sorting

Re: The Busiest Day
Thursdays are ALLWAYS the busiest day of the week for me, Friday finished earlier than Thursday and today earlier than Thursday.
My D.O we have 1 hour OT if we want each morning starting 1 hour before duty, 30 mins IPS then 40 mins Prep then back on IPS untill the bitter end for IPS duties stay on prep frame for mon IPS duties.
Packets are up big time, door knocking is the big time gobbler this year rather than cards.

Re: The Busiest Day
Today has been the worst I have seen this year, I had 9 bags of mail to be delivered, was in at work today for 7.20 am and got finished at 3.30 pm for a 550 delivery, not looking forward to monday as dom wants us in at 7 am. Didnt realise there was two 7's in one day as for normal dont get up till 9 am, well not going to get out of bed tomorrow, better half is ready for meals tomorrow lol
