I do the floating duty and always give any tips to the regular, he gives me 16% of his total on Christmas eve, this works for all 5 duties I cover, works well, i trust them they trust me.

Re: Tips anyone
We are an office with quite a few rural walks/van job and they deffo give more tips than housing estates/towns.
Bless the old dears, it is the ones that can't afford much that tip us/bin men/milk men etc
I used to do a walk in a quiet little village for a bout 4 years and each year I was on it I was getting more tips - 100 quid first year, 150 second and so on. One of the women who used to part of the same village never said how much she got, but we all reckoned 4-500 quid plus flowers, chocolates, biscuits, drink - her trolley bags where fuller when she got back after her round!

Re: Tips anyone
I got my first tip today.
I do holiday/leave cover, so a different round every week or so. I thought long and hard about what to do with my tips. Should I give them to the regular guy, in the hopes that he will throw some back my way? Or should I keep them for myself?
Anyway, the tip I got today was:
6 boxes of fudge.
Awsome.

Re: Tips anyone
Before today I had £20 in tips... from 3 diff customers.. Relief postie picked up a £5 tip last week, told him to have it.
Today I got £20, inside two xmas cards, from two more customers, and a bottle of wine as well from another. I was bloody careful going around on delivery with that in my pannier on the bike as well. Poxy bike fell over twice with the packets I had in it.. Broke the fall anyway but the bottle was safe! Now at home and will be drunk over Xmas! (Cabernet Sauvigon)
I make a note of the people who tip me and I "look after them" through the year.
Would like to know what happens to people who don't tip you... If they don't tip me then it's 'bye 'bye 'laccy' bands on the bundles of letters they did get, will get theirs in a mess on their doormats, and 739 cards left for packets etc... not left with a neighbour/friend etc or in a safespot they may have.
Did this last year and one person came up to me on delivery, after xmas, and gave me a tip, after a week of mail all over his doormat... (£10 tip) 'normal service' resumed for him... bands on his mail, packets left with neighbour etc.
