A bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a cyclist died.

John Ariss, 63, a Royal Mail employee, was cycling home from work when he collided with a bus at James Watt Queensway, Birmingham, police said.

Mr Ariss, from Weoley Castle, died later on Wednesday. He leaves a wife and five grown-up children - three sons and two daughters.

The 40-year-old bus driver was bailed pending further police inquiries.

Mr Ariss was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision, which happened at just after 0600 GMT on Wednesday.

James Watt Queensway must be one of the worst roads in the country to cycle along but sadly he probably had little choice.
