Capita is known as Crapita by those who work for it who were working for the post office when we had the TVL contract. I dont think they liked being transfereed into crapita from The Post Office LTD or had we changed to RM Group when crapita took over

the union should only represent the members who pay their fees i.e. let the non members fight for their own wages and conditions.

It could well come to that mailman71. If there are (oops, were) 120,000 union members balloted in the recent national dispute, and by it's own admission, members are leaving at the rate of 1,000 per month, that's 12,000 members per year


So, even assuming that rate of loss doesn't accelerate as a result of a (pointless) call to go back on strike in January, and adding-in the 20,000 or so that are already non-CWU employees, we're looking at less than half the workforce being CWU members in a shade over 4 years time.

And that's not taking into consideration anybody who leaves, retires or takes VR in the next 4 years, the vast majority of whom would be CWU members, the loss of whose contributions will also decrease the ratio of members to non-members, and hit union finances still further ...

Labour party affilation feees and donations(donations have ceased) come out of the political fund NOT the general fund.

Therefore the amount of money in the general fund will not alter if we cease to affilate to Labour.All that would happen is we would have more money to spend on the political objectives of the CWU. If your not interested in political objectives then dont pay the political levy.

It could be simple, though. Just ask those who pay the political levy: Would you support disaffiliation from the Labour Party and agree to use those monies to instead support the general fund ?

Are in the CWU. If so then I thought you would be aware that we don't renew our membership at any point. You join and start paying subs, you then withdraw by cancelling your subs and informing the CWU by cancelling your membership.

I keep hearing how difficult it is because the "Political" Fund and the "General" Fund are different and by Law the political fund can only be spent on political matters, so how difficult would it be to stop calling it the "Political Fund" disaffiliate from any political party explain to the membership that the subs remain the same but those who have ceased paying the political levy would have an increase of 10p.

difficult on the current set up, but no reason why the current set up can not be changed if mbrs and NEC so desired it.


Winding down the PF and transferring the money to the general fund is possible, will have to check out if that needs consent from the PF mbrs or whether the NEC can go ahead without consent if they so wished to do so.

If the PF was wound down and the NEC wanted to increase subs for the general fund by the same amount PF payers paid weekly then that would also be possible. As you say that would be a increase for those who dont pay into the Political fund.
