It is important that branch and field officers absorb this guidance. The Tribunals have become far more legalistic and are now like courts. Failure to follow these procedures could create difficulties for you as well as serious and costly legal consequences for the Union. This can involve very large Tribunal awards, legal costs and sometimes bad publicity. When things go wrong due to a failure to follow the procedures it can be embarrassing, pressurised and costly. So the advice contained has the authority of the NEC and must be followed by all union representatives handling potential or actual Employment Tribunal applications.

I can see why they don't take on all cases now.

But to get back to the increase in subscriptions - I think the increase should reflect the outcome of the National Agreement, whatever the agreed "reward" is should reflect the % increase in subscriptions, OR maybe it should reflect the increase we got this year. Pretty close though 1/1/2010 three weeks? Makes you wonder if that has been discussed - maybe RM threatened to stop collecting the cash?

That's a bit scarey, sign of the times I guess, people too selfish to part with even a few pounds.

Amazing isn't it. It's a union that is completely reliant on its employer RM to exist. RM could pull the funding anytime, aswell as facilities including phones, photocopiers, union boards, offices the lot.
I can see why the union is worried about its own existance.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I've been a Rep for over ten years, and I'd be hard pushed to sell the CWU to new members. I have completely lost faith in our leadership and believe they are completely out of touch with the grassroots of our membership. If it wasnt for the support I get from the lads and lasses in my office and the fact that I cant stand the bullying feckers in charge I would jack the CWU in myself.

Not too bad????

It is f***g disgraceful.....

Love the way they say we are saving you £100K on honoraria, yet if you calculate that 9p a week increase across 90000 members(?) it runs in at over £400K.

That's an extra £300K to spend on losing more terms and conditions of the people they are meant to represent....

I am unsure of exactly how many CWU members are within RM, but if the union say in print they are losing 1000 a month, you can safely say it is at least 3 times that figure....

But hey, what the heck, RM are engaging everwhere and there are few problems out in the field....its going to be a marvellous Christmas for "our people".... :Very Happy

And why are they losing a 1000 members a month is it lack of leadership or disillusionment of said leadership?. For a union called the CWU the H/Q has a major problem in communicating with its members a job which should be first and foremost!.

That will not make a lot of difference as money for Labour comes out a seperate and VOLUNTARY Political levy/fund which is 10 pence a week.

The political expenditure of the CWU does not impact on the money going in and out of the general fund.
