Early Starts......What should we do ?

Post by deadbox »

----- ROYAL MAIL EXECUTIVE ACTION ------

What should / can we all do about this imposition of later starts ?

What about childcare issues ( picking up your kids from school etc. ? )

Changing the office start times is considered "significant change" under the way forward agreement ( effecting more than 1/3 rd of the office ) and as such requires a RE-PICK / RE-SIGN

I believe that unless you consent to the changes, then changing your hours is a change of contract and as such requires 3 MONTHS notice by the employer

PLEASE COMMENT + CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG ON THESE POINTS !
I was sure I'd seen a bead of sweat on my line manager the other day - Until I realised that he had just brushed past me too close

RE-SIGN

Post by deadbox »

When the later starts were mentioned at our WTL this morning , a postman stated that this would trigger a re-sign, and our local UNION REP agree'd with him

We were promised a re sign several months ago but the DSM won't put the extra hours into the office that are needed so it's not going anywhere. Everything has been done walks timed etc. but still nothing has been done.

In my DO they want to take 5 walks as part of the efficiency savings. All the walks have been revised (in conjunction with our rep) for this coming into effect and they’ve been put on a board in the canteen. We’ll also have a complete resign if this happens. As I’m about 70 on the seniority list I’ll be lucky to keep my rest week cover.

However, as an office we’ve refused the efficiency savings. Our rep has told us this may lead to further local industrial action (separate to the current national dispute) if senior management take executive action, go above the union’s head and enforce them anyway.

Our rep does a great job and keeps us informed about everything. Have a word with your rep and tell him you think the efficiency savings are taking too much and you want to refuse them. Also talk to your mates and get them to do the same. I believe SE and SW London are currently having a similar dispute. Now more than ever we need to stay united!

They'd still have to add those 5 onto neighbouring walks. I can’t see many people accepting more work being put on their walks and it’ll cause a lot of trouble. I think a complete resign is the fairest way... even though I’m probably gonna get f****d over!

We shouldn’t be accepting these slash and burn cuts anyway! Last year they took at least 4 drives and the missort duty from my office. Why should we have to pay for senior management incompetence?! They’re wasting an extraordinary amount of money in my DO alone! Plasma screen, TomToms for the managers during the strike, we’ve even had 6 managers on the floor before (in an office of less than 100); the list is endless!

Resign is correct, its in the way forward black and white plain for all to see.

But if every job changes to a later start time whats the point? You will still be on a later start but on a different delivery!

ALSO remember that a resign would not go on seniority either
because its classed as ageism, so the old fart who as just started
would get first pick...........
me thats been working for 17 years, but still in my early 30's would get the s**t!!!!

But that is also ageism - they have to sort this out quick at union and RM as we are due a re pick after gio-route hit us.

How can picking a duty in order of how long you ave been with the RM with those in employment the longest picking first be classed as ageism?

The present system remains untill aggrement is reached to change it or excutive action takes place, neither of which has happened.

Is getting rid of seniority 1 of the 21 strings?

It's not ideal, but it's the fairest way.

disagreement

Post by lovejoy »

At a stage 3 in our Division it was admitted that the changes to start times has nothing to do with the 56mph changes and all to do with RM business plan. All need to go to disagreement and take it all the way. Every single disagreement at the moment strengthens the hand of the CWU national negotiators.
