Re: Smoking breaks?
Why allow people a smoke break its boarders on the ridiculous .
Do the people that dont smoke get a fresh air break NO so why should it be any different for smokers its a big joke.
But then again the only people smoking in our office between the hrs of 06-00-08-00 are drivers oh yeah and drinking coffee.
I wouldnt mind its at those hrs of the day people are needed the most on ips but as usual walk men carry the can.
If it were down to me no Fecker would be smoking whilst working good job im not a DOM as i would have the feckers.
Its all about being fair if your giving ciggy breaks give fresh air breaks aswell but no the none smokers get fecking none of these apart from being told to pick up your performance standards feck off Royal Mail and get real.

Yeah and bloody one of the DOMs scowled and gave me a bollocking when I went to the duty sheet to see what I was on for the rest of the week - he said "come on what are you doing?" screwing up his face. Don't see him saying anything to anyone going for a fag.

Nothing more than junkies. These addicts should not be encouraged by giving them special leave from duty. They are a massive drain on the NHS when they get ill too. Shoot the lot of em OR give them nicorette gum and bolt the doors till right of way.

Re: Smoking breaks?
I smoked for 40 years give or take, about 20 a day, then I had a mild stroke and after lots of tests over a 6 month period was advised to stop, which I did. Now I am not for one moment advocating people should carry on smoking BUT, and I can only relate as it happened to me, since giving up I have had tests for, bladder cancer twice, kidney scans, testicular tests, prostate cancer tests, I have now been diagnosed as diabetic and had radium treatment for thyroid problems and I have high blood pressure. I take 9 tablets a day now and when I smoked I took none. It's six years since I gave up.fishtank wrote:opgpat wrote:Nothing more than junkies. I still have the strokes DGP1 but not as vigorous - and now in the photos they are partially clothed to keep the palpitations to a minimum.DGP1 wrote:Hell mate, if you're on all those tablets should you really get excited looking at all those 'questionable' picturesdvbuk55 wrote:I smoked for 40 years give or take, about 20 a day, then I had a mild stroke and after lots of tests over a 6 month period was advised to stop, which I did. It's not just a smoking issue.
Next time you see someone nip out for one, stop and look around your office.
You will see people standing drinking coffee,p1ssing about with their mobiles, engaging their managers in "meaningful conversation" checking their dropbags AGAIN and various other ways of avioding work.![]()
Leave us poor smokers alone,Everybody hates us and we will all die earlier anyway leaving more pension for you lot.
BTW I would never have a ciggie when there is work to be done.
you work 5 days a week = 100 mins
you work average 45 weeks a year = 4500 mins = 75 hrs a year
So you get an extra 2 weeks a year off paid for by RM.
If I as a non smoker go out in the yard and stand around doing nothing twice a duty, I'll soon get asked what I'm up to, the sooner they make RM premises a no smoke zone the better, they should make you buggers sign out when you go for a smoke.
Blokes in our DO smoke in vans, and if you're a non smoker, you dare to complain, what you guys don't realise is when you smoke in the van you are breaking the law, not some rule dreamt up by RM, if you lit up in a cafe now, you'd get chucked out or arrested, smoking in works vans is the same offence.

Re: Smoking breaks?
All our vans now have no smoking stickers stuck on the dash and the smokers have been told smoke in the vans and risk getting sacked.

Re: Smoking breaks?
All company vehicles, not just Royal Mail, are affected by the legislation if they are used by more than one person. In effect pool cars or vans that are used by a number of employees will be required to be smoke-free.Pegman wrote:Blokes in our DO smoke in vans, and if you're a non smoker, you dare to complain, what you guys don't realise is when you smoke in the van you are breaking the law, not some rule dreamt up by RM, if you lit up in a cafe now, you'd get chucked out or arrested, smoking in works vans is the same offence.
From 1 July {07} it will be an offence to smoke or to permit
smoking in all enclosed public spaces and workplaces in
England, including vehicles used for work. The law is
already in force in Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland's
smoking ban already affects commercial vehicles and vans but not
cars (company or private) used for business.

The same prep as a non-smoker
And deliver the same size walk as a non-smoker
but i have 100 mins "spare" a week for smoking.
You non-smokers must be a bunch of lazy B*stards
As far as smoking in a van is concerned mate,I don't,I don't even smoke in my own car/house or even my shed.
P.S Would you run to management if a collegue was finishing 20mine early each day
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

While you are out in the yard having your "crafty" smoke someone else is still inside doing IPS, at least thats what happens in our office, besides those doing IPS are normally full timers anyway who have been at RM for donkeys years and have the shortest easiest walks, while the PT's are given all the s**t and expected to do 5 hr walks in 3 1/2 hrs
