My condolences to your fellow worker POSTMAN and :lfo :cfo to the screw. I myself arranged a day off as leave for a family wedding months in advance, sat in the admin office while the screw put it in the computer assumed it was fixed, all leave was first come first served or so we were told then somebody came in after me and wanted the whole week so bang goes my day off and the leave block was full (half term). I find this out a week before the wedding so going sick would have been too obvious so after much 'discussion' with the screw and the dum I luckily had a bunch of the lads to cover it then another guy offered to do the whole round so I paid him, was going to give all the boys something for their work was not at all happy about making my pals do lapsing when we are fighting against it coming in. I will have the day back. . . . . .you can guess how!! :chuckle

I don't know if it's changed recently, bu three years ago you got a week's special leave if the bereavement was immediate family (father, mother, brother, sister, or child) and a day for the funeral.

You get 5 days for arranging a funeral.
This came out during the malarkey going on.
Everything was sorted in the end and he got the 5 days off,the thing is why do we have to go throught the whole rigmorale shite to f***ing get it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

From personal experience - I have lost both parents whilst at royal mail and on each occasion was given one week or the time leading up to the funeral - whichever was greater in order to sort out the funeral and family affairs etc - received help and consideration from the relevant DOM at the time - no problems. Also when my mother had a massive stroke that eventually led to her death, my line manager drove me to her home and then followed the ambulance to the hospital to make sure I was there as soon as possible and arranged walk cover for me - there are humans amongst them.

When my Mum died I had five days for arranging funeral etc, plus 2 days for funeral.

COMPASSIONATE LEAVE

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Sincere Condolences to the guy.

But I just cant get over it. When I was in Hong Kong with the forces, my dad was badly hurt in an accident and was 50/50 wether or not he would live. The forces got the call at 3.00pm local time, by 7.00pm I was sitting in a BA 747 first class flying home. A few days after I got home an officer from a nearby unit visited me to see how I was and if there was anything he could do. After my dad was out of danger I rang this officer and told him. He said OK I'll arrange a flight back in another 2 weeks. Good to his word 2 weeks later I was on my way back to work. In total I was off 4 weeks all paid and none of it came out of my entitlement.

Royal Mail this is how you treat people when you want to get the best out of them. Not the big stick you continually use.

The area Manager stated that he could only get the day off for the funeral if he could cover his walk.
Needless to say it was sorted by our rep after a lot of running around and phone calls ect

To say we were gobsmaked is an understatement.
To say we then got angry about it is putting it midly.
