Royal Mail apologises to former postman over unwanted deliveries

THE Royal Mail has apologised for delivering leaflets to a former postman – who was suspended from his job for encouraging householders to opt out of receiving door-to-door items.

Roger Annies contacted his former employer to find out if they were responsible for delivering unsolicited leaflets to his Barry home, despite him having registered not to receive such items.

The 48-year-old member of Barry & the Vale Friends of the Earth was assured the items, which had been arriving for up to six weeks, hadn’t originated from the Royal Mail - but further investigations revealed they had.

The father-of-two, now a care worker, was suspended from his round in 2006 after he advised people how to reduce their junk mail and composed a note which they could sign to opt out of receiving the advertising mail – a service which makes the Royal Mail money.

Mr Annies, of Churchfields, said legislation existed to prevent people, who had made the choice, getting unsolicited mail and all companies delivering items should check the register.

"They know people don’t want this stuff," he said.

"All they have to do is look at a list and obey it." A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We apologise to the customer for delivering leaflets to his address, despite his name being on a list of customers who have ‘opted out’ of receiving unaddressed mail through the letterbox.

"This was down to human error on our part and we are in the process of tightening up our procedures regarding this issue in future."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There will be no d2d soon. It's all going into an addressed envelope and the customers won't be able to refuse it based upon the fact that we cant refuse to deliver it!
