Im Steve and have Been with royal mail for 27 years . I am looking for someone that could give me some infomation about Edinburgh Mail Centre and the Edinburgh delivery offices . If there is someone that can help me out Please contact me .

Hi Again
Sorry i am a postman in the hants area and am looking to move to Edinburgh sometime next year as that is where my girlfriend lives . I work in a delivery office and have limited knowlegde to what shifts are worked in mail centres and what kind of work they do there as i have not been to a mech office for a while and know that they have changed a lot over the last few years . There is nothing sinister about this post at all , Just have met a wonderful young lady and we want to be together !

Don't know about the Mail Centre but you will be moving to a wonderful and quite beautiful city. Visited there on our honeymoon and it was not only romantic but friendly and full of atmosphere. If I were you I'd go there anyway - even if you don't stay with Royal Mail

Been A postie far too long to worry about the weather !
She thinks hants is far too flat and would miss the moutains !
I have to agree wih her on that point !

Not being into football myself im not sure about the goalpost but could ask !

Speaking as someone who moved from the South Coast to Glasgow, DON'T DO IT! You'll hate the weather, the Scots will hate you, no matter how nice you are, and you will never feel you belong. Yes, once you get outside the big cities the countryside is gorgeous, but can you afford to live in the country on a postman's salary? How will it fit with your shifts and whatever your girlfriend does? Seriously, you really need to think about this very carefully. Can't she try Hants first? I think we're much more welcoming of Scots than they are of the English, and parts of Hants are beautiful as well.

Thanks for your point of view gretzky and yes hants is a very nice place to live . My girlfriend is set on staying in Edinburgh and She is the main bread winner and She has comitments there . Shifts dont really matter as much as not being 300 plus miles apart . We have talked this through and its what we want .

All I really need now is some info about the times of the shifts that mail centres work , Times and days . Would like to know more about what its like working there as well . This would just give more idea about it now rather than waiting to visit the mail centre next time im in Edinburgh . Would also prefer to talk to postmen rather than the managers !

Speaking as someone who has worked in Pompey and the smoke,sorry to hear that you dont think we are welcoming enough,I think its all about how you try to get along with folks no matter where you are,theres beautiful places all over the UK,from the gardens of Kent to the Kyle of Lochalsh,I try and never go anywhere with a chip on my shoulder.As for the weather,it's Scotland ....................it's wet......................it rains......................but when it doesnt..............it is simply the most wonderful place to live.

I hear it rains south of the border too.

Why should the weather matter if you work in a Mail Centre . . and you go home to your girlfriend ??

If you have a positive attitude, and a chip-free shoulder then anyone would be open to people, rather than shutting them away and not wanting to be part of the mail centre.

This would apply even if you moved to Brum or Brighton, not just North of the Border.

I'm sure there must be some Edinburgh MC people on here who can tell you that.
But generally speaking the majority of MC staff are usually on late shifts as most of the collection
work comes in between 1600-1930 and has to be sorted and despatched by 2145-2200.

It's not easy to get a transfer to a MC as they are cutting FT staff and replacing them with PT.
If you do get offered a transfer though, it might well be for a PT duty, around 1700-2200.
