Royal Mail struggles with long queues for packages

ROYAL Mail customers have faced long queues at the delivery offices in Coventry as staff struggled to cope with an increase in undelivered packages.

Queues were going out the door of the office in Bishop Street, city centre, over the weekend and yesterday as people collected mail that had not been delivered through their letterboxes.

One customer, who had tried to collect mail five times and had queued for 30 minutes, said: “It is disgraceful. We pay to have our mail delivered and it is just not good enough that we have to wait this long.”

A spokeswoman for the Royal Mail said the office had just been experiencing an incredibly busy time for packet mail.

She said: “We are aware that we have had a massive increase in the number of packages which is the kind of mail that people have to come and pick up, especially at this time of year.

“We are putting additional staff in to deal with it and serve customers as quickly as possible and will be opening an additional facility to deal with customers quicker as it gets closer to Christmas.”

She said customers could also arrange to have the mail redelivered at a time to suit.

Guess what - it's not just Coventry who has a problem - one of the blokes who works in the callers has had his hair go grey.

Join the cue if you pardon the pun,just like down here they borrowed staff from the MC to see if they could help shift the cue only problem was the poor loves had never seen a callers before so you can imagine what happened

same s**t at macclesfield. york after york of undelivered packets and parcels. the pile just keeps getting added to each day!!!! people were even turning down sundays to deliver them!!!! we keep getting told "there is nothing on ! " there looks to be plenty on from where i'm looking!!!!!

What seems to be the trend this time of year,and one the CWU should jump on is that managers hold out paying docket to clear them as they seem too scared to ask for extra hrs.
They wait till the xmas pressure starts and hope it gets clear then.

isnt it just typical of royal mail to think its progress in putting posties out later on the streets and trying to deliver packets when all the householders have gone out, is this what customer care is all about.For gods sake give the public a service they want and need.! If i was a competitor id be straight in there with offering the public a service of being first to get out on the streets in the morning with their post and making sure they got their post before going out.Mmmm let me think didnt we do this a few years ago and as far as i can remember royal mail seemed to do allright out of it.

Wash your mouth out, sacrilege, defying logic - but absolutely correct. Prior to SDD et al since then - we all started at 5 am, we all sorted both packets and letters, segged local from national mail and had everything delivered by 12 - now? even the managers don't know who starts and when, who sorts what and when -
today we still had sorters on IPS at 9.25. If this is progress I look forward to going back to the horsehair sofa, wireless and powdered egg.

They could always go to the high street and queue there instead
