:Applause Very true . For anyone who thinks the John Lewis partnership is an ideal enlightened employer just seek out a current employee and ask them what they think about their working conditions. Some might be shocked by the replies. Don't forget according to the mainstream media ,posties are underworked ,overpaid ,workshy ,thieving luddites

Just because the term used is "John Lewis" it doesnt mean that is the exact model. John Lewis was after all set up by management. The working model for RM could be done with full involvement of shareholders/workforce. It need only look at John Lewis as a template and learn from their mistakes.
Anyone who thinks RM or any other business can trundle on in the same way it has for decades is living in cloud cuckoo land.

As an employee of John Lewis I am sickened by the myths perpetuated by the media. This week our Bonus has been announced & according to soundbites from our Chairman there was cheering across the Partnership when the percentage was announced. Hold on - last time there were record profits we got 24% of our annual salary, this year we got 18%. There are redundancies & we have had our wages frozen. Hardly a party atmosphere! Don't be fooled into believing we own the business - no, the operation is run by a board of directors & profits are distributed as they see fit. The fabled Democracy is a sham - even now what say we had is being stifled by a new "Democracy Project" - the Staff Councils are just talking heads who rubber-stamp management decisions. Morale is at an all time low & we are told we should all be grateful to be working for John Lewis & give the impression of Happy Campers to the outside world.
