Office Re-sign Re-pick

Post by the beautiful bd south »

Firstly apologies if this question has been asked elsewhere on the site but here goes:

Our office is about to undertake a re-pick /re-sign after a revision due to transfer of Mail to another Mail centre.
There are 2 rumours how the re-pick will run one is that existing night shift workers will have to be given the opportunity to retain night allowance at the expense of staff on shift attracting a lesser allowance.

The other being the re-pick will run straight down the seniority list.

Anyone being displaced by either system would receive pay protection.

Don't know if that makes sense but does anyone have any experience of this.

In a business which is trying to save money it doesn't make sense to me that Royal Mail would pay an employee a new allowance and then have to protect someone's earnings for the same allowance.

But then again if we lose seniority what have we got????

Re-signs, re-picks, whatever you like to call 'em, are fast becoming pointless. Why would anyone want to come off a shyte duty, only to sign for another shyte duty?
OK, if you've been lucky to have duties put back, I can see the point, but in an office like mine, butchered since SDD in 2003, and looking at more duties going in 2010, and where the majority of my colleagues want a re-sign, it just baffles me, it really does.

Pay protection for allowances, lots of ins and outs but be careful when management say this to you as with us we were promised this, then only to be told it would be protected for 3 years, then you take a pay cut!

3 years' pay protection is part of the MTSF agreement, is it not ? So it's not 'taken away by management' in an act of spite, but as part of an agreement signed-up to by the CWU and management. Only applies if you are involuntarily displaced off your chosen shift (e.g. someone with low seniority on Lates being forced to take an early shift because senior staff grabbed all the late duties) ? Someone who chooses to pick an early duty when there were Late duties available would lose the allowance completely ?

Never mentioned the management would take it away in an act of spite
all i was trying to do was pass on a bit of info, being that management like to be economical with the facts, in our case as i have said
they said "would be protected" later found out / admitted only for 3 years
so be very careful ask the reps and on here and get as much info as you can
will people stop reading things into posts that are not there
i'm getting pissed off with this place

This happened in our last MC resign 4 years ago.
The night duty holders were 'ringfenced' - ie they could keep a night duty if they signed for one,
even if there was someone more senior who wanted to sign for it.
The reason being that management didn't want to pay someone the night shift allowance under pay
protection if they were knocked off the attendance, and also pay the shift allowance to the person
who picked up the duty.
