I deliver to a residential care home, one of those 24 hour care places. I seen an old lady I hadnt seen for a while wandering the corridor looking lost, she asked me what day it was (it was actually Saturday) and the time (was around 8.30) then shuffled off down the corridor. On the Monday I spoke to the warden and told her the story, turns out the old dear had died a fortnight EARLIER.

There is a woman on my walk who is a diabetic-she has come to the door in a bad way a couple of times, and I've had to go into her house and get a spoonful of jam and feed it to her,to stabilise her blood sugar level. All in a day's work!!

One of my customers had a large plant pot stolen from her front garden it had belonged to her mother who had past away so she had put it in pride of place, one night the students had done their worst and gone on the rampage, they had stolen the pot and dumped it down the end of the road in another customers garden so i put the rest of the mail in the back of the bike and balanced the pot in the tray which it did'nt really fit but i did get the pot back to her,she cried when i turned up with the pot it did not do the tray any good but who cared she got her pot back, its round the back now so it should not happen again.

Re: Not just a postman
Was cycling up to the start of my round when I saw an old man lying on the pavement with his dog just stood next to him. He'd blacked out and fallen banging his head. So rested my bike on the floor and phoned the ambulance staying with the man until it came speaking to him and making sure he was fine. Then rumours went round the village that it was me who had had the acccident because they had seen the bike on the floor and put two and two together and got five. Was getting people asking if I was alright and phone calls all week after that.
Another time I was delivering on a caravan park when I heard a faint voice shouting. I went to the door and I saw an old lady in her nighty on the floor. She'd been there for over two an half hours and she was freezing and couldnt get up. I went for help to pick her up and got ambulance again for her. She could have been there for over a day if it wasn't for me delivering there.
We might not get paid for it and RM probably don't give a s**t but I believe that it is part of our job to keep an eye out for things like that. Were the only people who go to these people everyday. If we didn't that lady could have been dead. (She is now but thats a different story) Im proud to be part of the community and care.
