Best thing that ever happened at Burslem .Morale is getting better again now that everbody is talking in the canteen and on the vans which wasn't happening after single daily delivery (SDD) came in. DON'T SIGN THE FORM FROM ROYAL MAIL and it is not unofficial industrial action if you stop using your car as you would be driving it illeagally with no insurance cover. :no no

Until recently, I used my car for delivery but as it meant travelling 12miles per day using my petrol, I have now told my line manager that I won't. Went down like a lead balloon + have now been put on rounds that I don't know + not getting any training! Still, I can just cut-off!

cars on delivery

Post by davepat »

are any of you insured to use your car for work purposes.

Other wise if you have an accident the s**t would it the fan. Just imagine if any of you kill someone [touch wood it don't happen], it only takes a split second.
I bet management would come down on you like a ton of bricks

I use my car aswell - i don't like to but people do have reason's.

I would find it hard to get into work as the bus service is non existant in the morning. My delivery has no official drop points. When a road is heavier I can change the starting point of each bag so I'm not so much of a pack horse. I'm not carring packets that I couldn't deliver and finally I have two children under 5 and need to be home for 14.00.

I don't come in early or anything like that and rarely do any overtime.

This sound's like a list of excuses but to have a total car ban we need to do it as one and not in drips and draps. In February on the work your hours day most of my office with me included didn't use our cars and the managers were running around like headless chickens because we all stuck together.

In the past i stood up to a DOM and got slaughered by him because I refused to go over my time. He punished me by making sure that every day for 2 weeks I had a bag to drop of at 13.30 as my finishing time was 13.45.
Nobody in the office backed me up ( i can't blame them) the cwu said that aslong as he kept me before my finishing time he was doing nothing wrong. My manager only advice to me was to keep my head down and he'll soon pick on someone else. If I was the only person not to use my car I feel that I would be hassled by my manager.

For this reason we need the CWU to have more days like the work your hours day to encourage offices as a whole to ditch the car.

Sounds like you've got a B&H case there wdo,you should be able to do what you want without any recriminations.

And the stuff you have pointed out regarding bag drops and no safe drops makes me wanna go down to your place and give your manager a good f***ing hiding and i'm sure others reading this would agree, what a c***.

But this is the problem in the job, tooooo many people (and i'm not having a go at you)are doing the job the wrong way, cutting corners, giving RM free rides out with the car s**t.

Read the 'Burslem guys' and the 'on the vans thread' in Blue Shirts.

But like you say the problem is you need 100% support in the office or people get victimised.

I'm on the vans, mainly because our office had exec action, before that we had the earlier boys and the car users.
Now it's 99%(dont ask) and we've never been happier.
It's just a shame it takes a kick in the bollx from the business to get to it.

Blue Shirts always seem to do things when they're being kicked, prevention is better than cure in my book.

I use my car as the van driver for my run has 5 postmen to drop off - but he also goes around every box with the postman before he is dropped off and I am the last one to be dropped off - just to let you know that is 4 postmen, 13 drop boxes and then my 3 drop boxes before I am dropped off. this usually takes around 50 mins as my run is about 12 miles from the office.

Therefore it is a whole lot more convienent for me to take my own bags to my boxes, park up and do my delivery. This way I am started within 10 - 15 mins from leaving office!!!!!!!!

And in all fairness make it much, much easier for the business to cut jobs
