As for those that stood out in the cold/rain while others went in, looks like those that went in were not so daft after all.

Hmmm. Out of the three non union members in my office, two of them asked me for forms to join the union just before the strike.
Scotland no2 branch had a big membership rise just before the strike aswell 97gaz mostly from new starts.
As did Huddersfield DO - I think Night Tonic is either:

a. Trying it to get a reaction.
b. Debating from supposition rather than fact.
c. Indulging in a bit of wishful thinking.
d. Extrapolating a local situation into a National one.

, [c] and [d] are fine, just hope its not [a] as that would only reinforce certain opinions.

I still see no one singing the union's praises either locally, nationally or on here. Strange how things can change so quickly eh.

Night tonic,
as i said in another post, the union has certainly been criticised, and yes i have to agree with you it's caused division, but we have seen a difference in our office from the last strike, this time we have united ourselves, organised nights out,and not simply blamed the union.
We have had problems,as Teebs will testify, but ultimately the union is only as strong as it's members.
Sometimes it's the easiest option to do nothing, because of the attitude,"well it's going to happen anyway".
And i say again,i think the union have learnt and actually got this one right,it will be far easier to call people out than
it would of been to carry on for weeks on end, with the busiest days looming there's no pressure on us because we
simply have nothing to lose, and i'm sorry if i offend anyone,i don't mean in the short term financially.
But Rm's plans are ludicrous, driven by fear and motivated by greed.
What's at stake are our futures, especially the guys in their 40's 50's and beyond, who have been great servants, seen
a great service, and simply can't walk into another job(although i'm sure they would given the option)
Night tonic,i and many others are no doubt of the same opinion as you,we blame the CWU bigwigs for getting us in this mess in the first place.
But crossing the picket line will not get you any respect from the management,or anyone else, stand proud, stand united, and even if you end up leaving,at least you know we gave it everything.
