I doubt anyone would tolerate it.
It isn't just the weather, with longer deliveries you would be finishing in the dark in winter.

At least 3hrs after your DOM has gone home.

Trouble is if this was voted on which it will be in time half the workforce dont do foot deliverys, They will vote on whatever deal is done with a yes vote, They will get more money, a shorter working week and other benifits, Me and others like me will have to tread the streets for hours on end, Im 41 now and after 21 years as a delivery postman im starting to feel it.

I have a henia, sciatica and other pains when i get home, as i said im only 41 at the moment but can i up the pace and hours on foot in the future into my 60s, i really doubt it.

Most of the attacks have and will be on the frontline staff the delivery men, many have shot thierselves in the foot in the past for the carrot that is job and finish, i do my job correctly and work my hours, im now gonna be srewed into working harder because of poeple cutting corners and unrealistic budgets plus my workmates in MCs and driving getting a payrise of the back of me now walking the streets for up to five hours, Pissed off? Yes.

Who is "they" and how can "they" say anything about delivery spans without any agreement.
Or has a deal already been done on delivery span increases.
Or will nothing be said in the agreement and RM will just increase them anyway with the union continuing to turn a blind eye. :no no :no no

This whole dispute is starting to smell........

Park and loop is 4 hrs 15 minutes - we've had it in for 14 months and that was the agreed TRIAL time, mind you it's a helluva long trial.

The trouble is 4 hours or 5 hours - these can only be average times. If you can work at that pace or faster than average, then fine.If you can't then you are stuffed. 4 hours becomes 5 hours or 5 hours becomes 6 hours. We already have 2 posties who are regularly out until 5pm. A punter arrived at the callers office with a 739 timed at 21.20.Obviously it will be a young man's (part-time) job.Yet young men become husbands,dads,house-owners and then a part-time wage doesn't seem so attractive. The turnover of staff will bring additional problems. There will be no local knowledge. The same constant repetition of the same mistakes.
But if we do end up delivering in the dark will they re-issue those crap torches we used to have?

We had a trial funnily enough about 14 months ago.
Two walks bolted together with the packets on top.
Management picked 2 runners in their 20s, No IP, prepped the walks and ran about 1hr before anybody else.
They still coudn't finish on time.
Both guys left RM within a week of each other.
Trial stopped.
Management said it worked fine. :chuckle :chuckle

Funny that ft, it's always the ones who don't do these things who think it is possible - mind you I have never seen a manager do one or even attempt to prepare one or time one - but by some dint of superior intellect - they know it works - even when they are told by people who do it - it doesn't - boy I wish I was a manager ;liar

This is the crux of the matter no one on here refutes being made to work the hours they are paid for but harassed bullied and coerced into doing the impossible is at the heart of this dispute let no one be in doubt of that!.

What is the maximum time someone can be out on a walking round and also the maximum for a van round - surely there's some law on this?

I do and my comment was done tongue in cheek because the usual will happen as with anything Royal Mail brings into our working lives.

It will be poorly trialled, those who did trial it will have passed on their views and management will have ignored those completely, it will be rushed into offices with the "promise" of tweaking them as problems are found which we all know is bullsh!t, the rounds will be far larger than agreed with the postie being stressed to high heaven and harassed to deepest hell by incompetent managers who will be patting each other on the backs for a job well done whilst counting their bonuses for "forcing" the new rounds in.
Ok understood, I see we are on the same side here :cool

National agreement is 3-30hrs for a walker, not sure bout the vans.

Also this thread is tbf a nothing thread as 5hr walks aren't in the mix.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Cheers, just we are app. making some walking jobs van sharing jobs. The word on the grapevine is that for 4 walking jobs in one large village are going to be made into a van sharing job for 3, which probably includes the 3 doing the prep aswell! - this also includes obviously large packets and parcels etc to be delivered which the walk men previously would not of taken. The 4 walking jobs now are pretty much full on and the thought of more work....it just won't work.

I knew the walk's max is supposedly 3.30hrs, but is this from first to last letter or does it include travel time to and from the delivery area? Thanks.
