ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE – INTERIM AGREEMENT Latest

Under the auspices of the independent process talks have commenced on all of the national key principles contained within the Interim Agreement.

On Thursday 26th November, the first formal review of the agreement will take place. The review will determine whether or not sufficient progress is being made against the agreed criteria contained within the Interim Agreement. The formal review success criteria covers two key areas:-

1.We need to see evidence that management’s imposition of change is being dealt with through genuine negotiations and local agreements being reached.

2.We need to see evidence that the key principles are being taken forward towards a full and final agreement, particularly given that both parties have committed to significant progress by December.

We know that there are widespread concerns across the Union that Royal Mail’s real agenda remains to get through Christmas and then revert to type. We will maintain pressure on the company to ensure this is not the case.

This week a letter has been sent to all members explaining the terms of the agreement and making it clear that the Union is not going to allow Royal Mail to stall any of the issues contained within the agreement just to get through Christmas. The letter also states that unless there is sufficient evidence of progress on the above mentioned then we will return to strike action, this has been agreed, in principle, by the Postal Executive. However, we recognise that the formal review in front of the independent Chair and ACAS is the first real test as to whether the company are sticking to the terms of the agreement. To assist us in the review we have received reports from our Divisional Reps.

The Postal Executive will meet on Monday 30th November, to consider the outcome of the formal review. In the meantime, we would ask all Branches and representatives to ensure that managers, at all levels, are handed a copy of our members’ letter, this will help local managers understand the correct terms of the agreement. We will keep you informed of developments in due course.

Yours sincerely

In a nutshell.
It all hinges on tomorrow (Thursday) whether acas and the union think that progress has been made.
The union will then discus Thursdays outcome on Mon the 30th.
and then what?
another few days before we get to know whats been decided.
Its gonna be a long week.

I'll definitively go out if that is what's decided. Still, I don't think this go-slow attitude is going to win any fans (or scare management.) The most important strike action in years and they can't meet on Friday? Or Saturday?

Now it is the 30th - and then what? No don't tell me the PEC will agree to strikes in principle if it is shown there is no progress - well it is 21 days since we called off the strikes, that's 3 weeks and the story was they would be leaving 4 days a week in their diary free to negotiate forward movement - well by my reckoning that is 12 days of negotiation - if of course those negotiations have actually taken place and if there is no forward movement - somebody is stalling, in fact I think they are BOTH stalling.

No.There are widespread concerns across the Union that Royal Mail has not changed type and therefore does not need to revert to anything.
