No idea what that was supposed to say, but if RM want to pay me more for doing more work I have no problem with that.
But, if you're not working all your paid hours now, what on earth makes you think Royal Mail will increase your workload and pay you more? Surely, the sanest thing to do, would be to fill the time Royal Mail pays you for, and which you make out of the job, with more work? :cuppa

The delivery's in our office are a mixed bag we have F/T duties that have been turned over to P/T,those duties fail everyday because the staff come in and the walks are not finished being thrown off because in the real world they are not P/T duties.
Royal Fail are chasing a dream that is not ours to have you see the delivery model that the sad senior management hanker after is not applicable in this country because the good old English postal system excepts any shape or size so in real terms it can not machine everything, unlike our European counterparts,so this means that we spend longer on IPS and have to then prep over sized walks, unlike our European friend, the more we eat into our duty hours indoors the less we have outside, not rocket science i hear you say,so the answer to that is we will take more people of the IPS because then we will have the staff to sort the new P/T walks, great on paper but in the real world we all have less time because every thing has a price, this in it's self then causes us to spend time we have not got to use so the time has to be added on at the end which clearly shows we have never had 3.5 delivery spans in our office we have always been out for over 4hours so if they want to add any more on then the few walks that are not blowing out will be because even the best get fed up with doing O/T everyday which is what is happening in our office.
The only good bit of sense i have heard out of our DIM's mouth is that he is sceptical that we will have vans and trolleys to replace all the bikes as we have not got enough vans now and have been told clear as the sky out side we don't have the money!

They tried that last year when banking hours was trialled in our office. The result was no cars used, all bags out with drivers, no coming in early. Therefore hardly anyone made any time (in fact plenty were OWED time) and the scheme was scrapped.

It seems more sensible to me to offer us a higher basic wage in return for more work, that's one thing that WOULD encourage people to work harder. You don't mind doing it if you're getting paid for it.

I love this post "encourage people to work harder" :chuckle :chuckle Here we are arguing that the workload is unmanageable and we have been missing the point.

All we need is a couple of extra bucks and we can find that missing extra gear.

Wait until your knees are screwed and your back has gone and come back with the same post. :cuppa

i can see a few major issues creeping up on royal mail and no doubt they will be arrogant enough to think that employment law doesnt relate to them again.

age discrimination and health and safety.

A lot of our walks are in the process of being re-organised, due to the DOM cutting hours and trying to combine walks. I'm losing my walk completely, it's being "absorbed" into others, evryone one is saying they can't do the extra, but all they get is timing on prep, and delivery and being told there is time. As PT temporary I'm actually worried if I will have a job in the New year.

That's not really how I meant it...

I meant if we're getting paid more, ie £400 a week then I don't mind going over my time to a small extent, as what you're getting paid is worth it. At the moment I wouldn't work a minute over.

As for knees and back, been there done both......

I know this wont go down well but i think i could actually tollerate a 5 hr delivery... IF i was guaranteed to be spending a lot less time in the office... its the IPSing and prepping that leaves me feeling tired, irritable and stressed.

5 hours out in the pissing rain with a gale force wind in your face all the way.
I doubt anyone would tolerate it.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

i could do a 5 hour walk if i didnt have to climb any stairs and walk at a pace i kew wouldnt handle 5 hours.

but most of my walks have steps
that sort of screws that idea up straight away.

also id never get out of the office in time with the weight we have round here

it would take probably 2 hours min on the ips due to lack of staff
4 hours prep on your walk
after my break id have about 1 and a half hours walking time max

It isn't just the weather, with longer deliveries you would be finishing in the dark in winter.
