Royal Mail worker stole Six Nations tickets

A teenager who was working in a Royal Mail sorting office stole £3,600 worth of Six Nations tickets.

Benedict Nagle nabbed 60 briefs while employed in Edinburgh's Sighthill.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard the 19-year-old had given some to friends, but the remainder had expired without being used.

The teenager stole 20 tickets each for Scotland's games against Wales, Italy and Ireland, worth £60 each.

Fiscal depute Aidan Higgins said: "They were sent out by the Scottish Rugby Union by the Royal Mail to a corporate client.

"The accused had been taken on for a work placement by the Royal Mail and had impressed during the six-week placement and had been kept on.

"He was employed at a sorting centre at Sighthill and the package containing the rugby tickets caught his eye and he took the package.

"He gifted 18 tickets to persons who had been generous to him in the recent past.

"The other 42 remained in his possession and simply expired."

The client, Miller Group, initially thought the tickets had gone missing in its offices but Nagle was caught when some were traced after being used at games.

The teenager admitted stealing the passes in January, and also pleaded guilty to failing to appear at court earlier this month.

He will be sentenced at a later date.

Disagree, it sounds like the stupid mistake was Royal Mail's for taking the tea leafing twat on in the first place on work placement, and then keeping him on after six weeks because he impressed. Well many of us are unimpressed, another bad headline for the vast majority of honest and law abiding posties. My only regret is that he will probably get a paltry fine and maybe a suspended sentence instead of 5-10 years hard labour.

Well first of all your not a tea-leafing twat until you steal something so hardly RMs fault.
Have you never made a mistake,took a step down the wrong path and been lucky enough to get a second chance.
He is no ronnie biggs/rapist/child molester he didn't even attempt to sell the bloody things.
but you can be sure after a stretch in HMP he will know a good fence and all the best tricks.
I understand your point about bad headlines but if all we do is turn the kid into a professional criminal it hardly helps us.

If there's a debate bout the rights and wrongs of our criminal justice system then I'll be there with the bleeding heart liberals, we jail far too many people in this country and for the most part it DOESN'T work, too many kids get thrown into jail only to be trained into proper criminals by those already in the system, it's better to educate them that there is a better way.

And don't even get me started on the death penalty

Fishtank does have a point about schools of crime . That lad was just immature & silly , the lightbulb went up in his head and he probably just didn't think , it's not as if he was outside the Rugby Union ground touting the tickets ?
