I went in not knowing it was my day off because I was on leave the previous week and they don't send duty sheets out to people on A/L anymore. So stick that in yer pipeOnAFlyer wrote:Everyone keeps going on about how they hate the job so much, but some actually make the mistake of going in on a day offrhino49 wrote:I was once back home by 06:00, but I had gone in on my day off by mistakeI actually still like the job but count down the days till i'm off

Most days, yes. I thought I was finishing 5 mins early, but in reality should have had a 30 min break so was actually finishing 5 mins late!Acca Dacca wrote:Ah so you only finished 5 mins early. Re: What's your earliest finish ever been?
I once got out of the van at 7pm and i was home for 8.10.
Bang on an hour to do the round.
Usually though it took 1hour 45 on a good saturday.
Don't know how we ever made a profit cos we all used to toss it off in the old days(even managers) and there was no such thing as part time.I'd often only work about 30 hours a week.
Now i'm going like the clappers to finish on my time and i'm lucky if i'm all square at the end of the week, covering walks when i'm forced,4 or 5 more bags of mail and full time is the minority.Yet RM is absolutely skint(apparently).

Re: What's your earliest finish ever been?
barely finished later than 9AM ever, that's why we all loved the job, public got their mail b4 goin' to work, they think RM is gr8, we think RM is great, everyones a winner. Unlike today where public, postmen, everyone thinks RM is s**t.

Re: What's your earliest finish ever been?
Earliest ever for me was 8.59am on a Saturday, maybe 5 years ago - I actually legged it round so I could go and watch a football match. I think it actually took me 2 hours from first letter to last, when it would normally take me 3 hours of "not mucking about" walking.
I remember the earliest being out on a round was first letter delivered at 6.20am, when it's 20 minutes to get out there aswell! - Pitch black for the first couple of hours pretty much.
At the moment even rurals aren't getting out before 8am any day and more often than not 8.30 or later.
