Mandelson tells Gordon Brown:make me foreign secretary.

Post by chunk »

Gordon Brown is facing demands to make Lord Mandelson foreign secretary in a row that risks tearing apart his government.

The business secretary is secretly pressing Brown to hold a cabinet reshuffle so he can achieve his life-long ambition of running the Foreign Office. Mandelson made the request after he was snubbed for the post of European Union foreign minister at last week’s Brussels summit.

Mandelson’s reshuffle call puts the prime minister in a perilous position as he struggles to retain the support of the most powerful figures in the cabinet.

If he bows to Mandelson’s wishes, he risks alienating David Miliband, the foreign secretary, and his ally Ed Balls, the schools secretary, who is still eager for promotion. If he refuses Mandelson’s demand, he risks losing his loyalty with potentially devastating consequences for the election.

A well placed No 10 insider said: “This is highly delicate. He’s facing opposing demands from the most powerful people in the cabinet. He can’t square the circle." Mandelson is known to harbour ambitions to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Herbert Morrison, who was briefly foreign secretary in the 1940s.

Theres no stopping this fools conceit.
Ready to jump ship last week and take a euro job!
Now its fallen through and hes sucking up to Brown in masterly exhibition of tart like behavior.
Bad for the country if he gets such an important job but good for us as hes out of our hair.

Mandelson is typical of the sort of self-serving creep that's made our country what it is today. Mandelson has cost the Labour party tens of thousands of votes, not by himself admittedly, but nevertheless his contribution has been extraordinary to say the least. Any man who is part of a Labour government, and who states he could easily cross the floor of the house, and then fit quite easily into a Tory administration without a single principle, if he knows what having principles means that is, being compromised in any way, shape, or form, needs to be kicked out of the party unceremoniously, and as quick as possible.

Mandelson not being able to wreak havoc within British politics, would be no loss to Britain, British politics, or indeed, the vast majority of British people.

Who would we want to replace him? - we don't really want sympathy - we want commonsense and someone who will bring RM's management to the realisation that they should be leading us by good example and not trying to bully us into a submission they will never get.

Royal Mail and it's workforce has the potential to be the most successful of working partnerships but it won't become that when money and budget cuts are given priority over good staff relations and inclusion for all in the future planning of the business.

Mandelson has shown utter contempt for those he deals with - maybe the post of foreign secretary is most appropriate for him now, so let's get someone in who is in touch with the people who drive our economy, the workers, taxpayers and particularly those like ourselves who provide many of the essential communications for the industry and infrastructure of our country.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile
