Glasgow Mail Center World Class Mail Center????

Post by Demonsorter »

I was a bit suspicious of this whole initiative when it was first introduced! I thought why do we need such an initiative when we pay management so so much to be making these kinds of decisions as part of their jobs! eg how many people does it take to dig a hole and how long it should take etc.

It turns out after closer inspection that royal mail are actually a bit clever???? they are recruiting members of staff from the mail center floor to participate in "kiazen" events! these are events which are meant to identify better working practices and to identify possible job cuts!

By including ordinary members of staff in these events the management are stating that any changes have come with the backing and involvement of said staff!?? (sneaky)!

The short story reads that there will be job cuts where possible and these will be identified by ordinary staff with the help of puppeteers in the shape of world class mail center pillar leads!!!

16 jobs suppossedly went from Belfast Mail Center!? who knows how many will go from Glasgow?? There is allready work lying around forgotten about!

No improvement at Bristol Mail Centre, just business as usual. No going back on changes implemented due to strikes. Union rep still up for disciplinary for just saying the word bollox. The acting mail centre manager who originally suspended him had no action taken against him after knocking someone unconcious at a social event. Although their bosses are negotiating with the CWU I'm afraid the local juniors will just ignore instructions from higher up and just run their personal little empire the way they like. Maximise the bonus by reducing customer service ( 8000 1C packets left 16th Nov ) and 3 managers out sick. Perhaps they need a permanent policeman from Royal Mail central office based here to observe whats going on.

People in GMC just stare at you when you apply the rules, because most idiotic ppl just make their own rules .. "the faster ye do it the better" rule. If everyone done their job applying the H&S rule then it would fail every night, bring it to the management's attention, and THAT'S the kind of message they need. But, for every person that does it correctly, there's countless other ppl who just "batter in" and do the job that several more people would do if they "done it by the book" .. playing into the management's duty cutting plans .. especially the nugget / scab on the platform who whizzes about like he works in McDonald's.

Countless overweight bags have been put to one side, and made aware to the manager, if you can find one, yet whizz just sticks them in their proper york and left for the "receivers" to deal with. Everything falls on deaf hears, and the "i don't want to rock the boat" mentality still exists everywhere in that building.

The world class mail is just glorified ego rubbing at an extreme level, that why the marathon runner, and monkey man ain't been around in months, they're too busy hatching plans, and getting their faces plastered over posters, along with the other nuggets that partake in such a hollow event.

No quality initiative will ever work in Glasgow Mail Centre, or indeed in Royal Mail, because no-one is interested in implementing them properly. If you want to use a tried and tested system such as Kaizen or Six Sigma it has to be introduced by someone who understands it, and you have to use the whole system. Glasgow, and many other Mail Centres I've been to, were only ever interested in using the easy bits or the bits that would give them a positive outcome. Anything that would reveal a problem that would require solving they wouldn't bother with. I remember being at a meeting with a very senior manager once, discussing several reports that were required by RMHQ. Some of them would not have shown the MC in a good light. Whenever we reached one of these, he said 'we won't bother with that one'. When it was pointed out that all the reports were mandatory, he said 'yes, but we don't have to do that one if we don't want to, just make something up.' This attitude was all too common. Could be why some of them are no longer with the business.

Same here in Cardiff, had the Japaneese prof. and managers from all over the country down here last Tuesday (including Mr.Higson, Adam :cfo must have been busy counting his wages). It was funny seeing all the local managers running around shi***ng themselves., coz the `big guns` were coming

All we see down are managers (who seem to be multiplying at an alarming rate) who probably earn £40k a year putting posters up on walls, WAM`s picking up bits of paper and acting muppetts sorry I mean managers sticking bits of tape on the floor to show us where to park Yorks!! the best one was when they painted footprints on the floor in front of one of the (many, many) noticeboards so us numpties know where to stand in order to read it (or look at the pictures :Very Happy ). Its funny how they can hear a box label drop from 50 yards away but if someone is pushing 2 yorks straight past them at dispatch time they suddenly become totally blind. This World Class Mail is the thin edge of a very large wedge. I would love to know how much this WCM is costing them (us?) because the lunch they had would have paid quite a few postmans wages for a good few weeks, I think they were all off to Belfast the next day on the WCM roadshow tour, anyone from Belfast on here who can tell us how it went?

yeah Andy we had them all in glasgow a while back ,the mail centre was spotless on the day ,never saw it like that before except when we first arrived here back in....'93 ithink also the mail centre was back to its worst the day after, dont know where they hid everything??? must have had a few trailers out on the platform eh! anyway was good to see all those fuds chasing behind wee hirohito with there translators wrapped round their big heads it was the proverbial flys round shite brilliant. ibelieve the WCM budget is unlimited(honestly) and it would need to be with all the new see-through notice boards we have had with the countless bits of paper for the photos and the photos of photos and all the paper for all the anaylizing that goes into the WCM initiative everything gets analyzied to death aswell as (get this) weighing the dust produced by the machines also the countless free dinners and lunches and breakfast and free junkets to....well lets see turkey poland italy belfast to name afew off the top of my head and this isnt just MCM or DOMS or WAMS or LINOS or (well you get the drift) this is our fellow colleagues who take part in this initiative ..you know the ones that come on to early shift from night shift and get the brillo pads out to scrub down the targeted WCM machines and the ones who........well, again you get the drift and the majority of these people were out on strike fathom that one out so ...rant over oh by the way before i go as every thing will be going under a WCM "pillar" like the workplace coaches i believe some of them are union reps will these individuals be walking the walk and resigning from the WCM workplace coach or will they try and hang onto their £30 there are others though that have "took one for the union" cause and proudly did so but do our officers care as much about the union as the cannon fodder does ....sorry im digressing now

It's a total farce.

One minute they're clamping down on Health and Safety with all the team propaganda briefings, then the same night at despatch time the place is like a Laurel and Hardy movie with everyone doing the extreme opposite to what they were told earlier, and show earlier. All this under the selective eyesight and hearing the managers possess as despatch times. :d'oh!

Most people have themselves to blame. Not only DO staff for coming in early etc., but also mail centre staff for contravening the H&S they've been taught hours earlier, so that the despatches get out on time at the end of their shift, and even stay late to make sure they do. H&S isn't flexible, it's static, and it's there for a damn good reason -To protect us all. Ironically, every time i make make my "colleagues" aware of it it's hummed and hawwed about, they fabricate some farcical reason for doing it, and then they go back to exactly the same way they were doing before.

No-one sticks to together and enforces things, they al just mould to the managements demands, like jelly in a bowl, thinking the ass-kissing will get them somewhere.

It only get's you marked as a mug for later abuses of the system by management, and you / they will be the first victims for those abuses.

whatever is happening in Glasgow Mail Centre ... it is affecting our office, mail feeds late or don't turn up til after 10 and 11 am ... seemingly not enough vans being put on to distribute the mail to our local hub in Kilmarnock

Where have you been for the past 20 years Godrick? Glasgow Mail Centre can never find enough vans to run the 20 mins it now takes to get to Kilmarnock. :speak to the hand
In the past before road and vehicle improvements the journey was worth a 3-4 hour docket.
Now it's more worthwhile to take a meal-relief than to do the extra duty.

it was just a 3 week period this happened ending last saturday up until then we had next to no issues with the mail centre .. we weren't blaming the drivers as they are just doing as their screws are telling them to do ... it just reeked of the usual royal mail's penny pinching measures to cut costs ... oh and the last 20 years i've been in Royal Mail .... most of the time trying to pull my hair out
