About the same, a couple lessinfidel wrote:25 yrs krussel how bout you?.
Yes it was along time ago but it wasn't us finishing early which got us in the mess we are now as it was proper job and finish as all the available work was complete, a clear office everyday and the best postal service in the world.
As the workload increased our finishing times extended people started using their cars to keep the early finish and that’s were i think it all started to fall apart and really take off with van drivers the first to go as they were no longer needed for bag drops. I was one of these guilty car users until 1997 whereupon I saw the light (my car got done) and the damage it was doing to the job. The rest is history.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: What's your earliest finish ever been?
No, it was 2002. My duty finished at 0945, because I was doing o/t (and an extra half on top) management had both walks thrown off by the time I got back at 09.30. I was in the van and on my way back out by 09.45. This was when walks were at most 2.5 hours (on a heavy day). There was 8 hours docket if you delivered a full walk and 4 for half a walk. If that is what they were willing to pay, why should we not take it. You have to remember that 'spanish practices' were negotiated with management, we never just said, "I think we'll do this from now on, thank you". I'll say something else about this, the service we provide now, compared to then, is chalk and cheese and it isn't for the better.clashcityrocker wrote:That must have been back in the time of Spanish practices then?pinstripe wrote:Once, before the single delivery, London were on strike and I had finished my delivery, returned to the office, took out half a delivery, finished that and was home by 9.00. Another time I had finished an extra round and another half round and was home by 12.00 and still being paid till 9.45 at night. But it was hard graft.
"infidel wrote:thats why hard working posties are paying the price.
Wrong, hard working posties have always paid the price. Management would like you to think that that is the reason RM is in such a state, instead of the truth, that poor management and a desire for profit over anything else while trying to privatise what's left is the reason.

One day between Christmas and New Year last year, I finished at 12:20. I'm on a 25 hr contract, started at 7:45 and worked my break. I was chuffed to finish early! No undeliverables either, so didnt have to go back to office.

I once finished 3 hours before I got up and that was after having to eat a handful of cold poison etc etc.
