There is provision in the Agreement for all employees to be treated equally and fairly; there is also provision for individual circumstances to be taken into account.

It is laziness on the part of your DIM DOM that prevents you from having a reasonable chance of a regular long weekend break. With the minimum of willpower, a more positive attitude from your Rep and co-operation of colleagues, i feel sure that a solution should be found without resorting to official channels.

A reasonable request works both ways ... swings and roundabouts, etc, etc ...

Sadly, in your case, it would appear the Agreement is neither interpreted within the spirit or actuality of its content ...

no surprise there then!!!!!! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

It's simple, get your reserve list in seniorty order, each time they do a duty (whole week ones is best) mark down what their days of were, after a while you will see who gets what and then you can work our who has had at least a Sat off.
So,say you have not had a Sat off for a while, you, regardless of what your seniorty is can have 1st pick if a Sat off duty comes up.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Depite a grievance in place with the managers this is what im up against.
Its my rest day today but had a phone call off one of my college in work saying that another person was chatting to our union rep who isn't to pleased that me and another 5 reserves had approach our manager regarding this topic (Re: Regarding Long Weekends) seeing as the union rep didnt want to know hence us having our views put across to hopefully someone that did care.

Anyway apparently I was due to have this saturday and Monday off........... but because of apparently stabbing the union rep in the back has put me on a duty which isnt the best in the office one that I haven't done before and has denied/changed the long weekend I was suppose to have.

Our other manger had looked into the data base and confirmed that me and another person have had the least long weekends out of all the reserves in our office. Its seems the women reserves have had the most long weekends ( Hmmmm )
Only a few days more until a decision is made from the grievance.................and have also recieved the stage 2 grievance in the post. : - )

If this isn't vicimisation and discrimination I really dont know what is.........................And this is from the one person in our office ( CWU ) that suppose to support the royal mail workers. :speak to the hand

Ps. This CWU union rep has been slagging us off on Facebook......................What a COCK

Why is your union rep. making up the duties?

Have never really thought about the fact that he does.............but he has always set out the duties for the week ahead.
And he doesnt actually do a walk either but walks around drinking tea and coffee and joking whilst our social lives are in his hands. :mad

TBH he sounds more like a manager than a union rep. but if they wanted efficencies they could easily just send him out on delivery.

Have spoken with my Manager regarding our first grievance which was in place over a week ago now.............................and his reply was that he had spoken to HR and they had said that at my interview I would have been told that by being a RESERVE that I wouldn't be getting regular long weekends (EVERY 6 WEEKS) and that my manager would have raised this issue with you.

Well I have to say that I was a little dissappointed with his answer to my question.
I had applied for a postman/postdriver when applying for the post and not a RESERVE and also I raised the issue with my other manager that did interview me at the time and raised the situation regarding my children and whether it was possible for me to be able to see them on a regular basic and ............hand on my heart he said that the way the rotation works is that you'll be getting every 6th weekend off ( sat , sun, mon) . For the first 4-5 months when I started back in 2007 this was actually happening.
Unfortunately this has now all stopped and the manager that interviewed me had denied all knowledge of this every being spoke of in my interview. :no no
But how uncanny is this................other reserves were told the same at there interviews and they all had different managers. Hmmmm. Royal mail proganda..........I would say so.
My next step is to fill out the stage 2 form grievance and hand this into my 2nd manager who I must say..............Isn't the greatest. :arrrghhh
Will keep you informed on my progress. :pray

Do you work less hours on a Saturday ? If so by not getting one off on a regular basis you are consistently working more than 40 hours a week. I'm pretty sure that whoever makes up your duties every week has to make your hours balance out.

I'll correct myself; if you're not getting a Saturday off you are working 40 hours or LESS every week. You have to average 40 hours a week so they probably owe you a few Saturdays to make your hours up.

that would depend on local conditions at my DO it you Mon - Fri - you work a flat 8 hours a day FT, all PTimers are 6 hours a day Mon - Sat.

Full timers working Saturdays work 7 hours with the extra hour added on to Wed/Thu/Fri in 1/2 hour segments - so all tull timers should work a 40 hour week. Actually sometimes it can be to our benefit as the stand in managers will not know who is on a long day and who isn't.
