Romec opens state-of-the-art Innovation Centre

Facilities management concern Romec has opened a state-of-the-art Innovation Centre that brings its complete range of products and services under one roof for the first time.

Eighteen months of planning, and an investment of £250,000, has now come to fruition with the development of the Innovation Centre, which is located adjacent to the motorway network in Leeds.

The Centre takes visitors on a journey and shows how innovative Romec is as a company, while also letting potential customers get a flavour for what it is like to have the company as a partner.

Mike Sparrow, Romec’s managing director, commented: “The Innovation Centre provides a dynamic environment in which to demonstrate our products and services and show what sets us apart from the competition.”

Sparrow added: “Our new facility has been designed as an attraction and takes people on a journey with the experience starting from entering the car park, with vehicle recognition. A personal welcome greets you as you walk through the door. Walking into the Centre, you are greeted by a map of the room highlighting the distinct areas of your journey into Romec.”

Using ‘brand promise’ as the theme
The company’s ‘brand promise’ is used as the theme – taking visitors through the five guiding principles as they walk around, with demonstrations on how Romec delivers the services it offers. There’s footage of employees going about their work and using technology to add value for customers.”

The Centre showcases how Romec:

• monitors, responds and reports with the use of the ARC systems

• logs, tracks and traces by using mobile data units combined with the new Oracle real-time scheduler through its National Service Centre (NSC) for optimum performance, while also using vehicle tracking for route efficiency to minimise carbon footprint

• designs, manufacturers, creates and delivers functional items such as the iconic Royal Mail post box and the Tops 2000 automation project

• creates brighter working environments through efficiency, integrity and care

• analyses, installs and maintains building services through energy management

• works on special projects, and highlights the fantastic efforts of the National Projects Group in delivering services for Camelot

• has devised innovative new ways for print-based solutions to help customers with their creative requirements

Focus on fire and security issues
The many ways in which the company’s Fire and Security arm manages, protects and informs through technology are also highlighted.

Romec was founded in 1989 by Royal Mail to look after its estate of 2,500 buildings. In 2002, Balfour Beatty Workplace took a 49% share in the company.

In 2008m turnover was in excess of £195 million. The company is now one of the UK’s largest FM outfits, directly employing 4,300 people.
