more than anything I too cannot abide to see one single member turned over..and I am sure Barry from Eastenders will confirm that was always my position when I was representing....no personal agendas, no favouritsm, no prejudging...just making sure I put their side across and what the situation was either legally, or in line with national agreements...

Agree, you did everything you possibly could for your members... and are still doing so now.

It is not just London"s decison. It is this unions decison.

However this union owes parts of Scotland it was not the whole of Scotland. In fact mainly one coast of Scotland, Bristol , Plymouth , Peterborugh , Network site , and the other offices a huge debt of thanks for holding the union line of no savings until we got a national agreement.

In addition they owe London a debt as we have taken more action then any previous action other then the 1971 dispute. All 12000 members have taken at least 18 days with some units including N18 and SW16 have taken 23 days.

If it was not for all the above areas they would not have been a national ballot . As we at times have had to argue with the rest of the CWU both at CWU HQs and in the Branch"s that there had to be a national ballot.

So it is important that the CWU ensure that those areas who scarficed a lot for the greater good of the whole of the CWU make progress with the interim agreement as relationships with managment are clouded with hatred and bitterness.

You'll forgive me for pointing out the heading of this topic states "London decides.......on Monday" - rather than the CWU membership and I hesitate to point out it is now Wednesday - so are you demanding more strikes? - because this appears to be a little bit more conciliatory than your previous post - have you heard something from the PEC by any chance.

You don't need Dingo to tell you the news - ask any Manager - they have known from day 1 that this strike and all the bluff and bluster was just that. As a Manager said to me just yesterday "we do what we want" - and he is of course correct. All the meetings in the world and all the rhetoric are not going to change our working conditions one iota. There is a push forward now to finalise an agreement by December by both the CWU and RM and guess what - we aren't going to like it, it will do nothing to improve our working life, we will probably have a no strike clause incorporated and we will get a vote on the agreement, probably in the new year, which will be recommended by the Leadership and the PEC and it will be like lambs to the slaughter again.

Just call me mystic mog.

Already seen a foretaste of the Royal Mail business plans for us Scots entitled Scotland C&D Business Plan Local Initiatives 2010-11 (14 A4 pages) which was kindly supplied by my Area IR Rep and IMHO it doesn't make good reading:

Convert full time vacancies to job share's. Two people work 3 day weeks, delivery only, from 12 hours per week each. Take out the day off cover and all indoor work absorbed in the unit. Saves up to 24 hrs each time.

Glasgow Mail Centre has 3 year plan to save over £3,000,000 starting with over 70 jobs next year then rising over the next two.
A workforce a few years ago was 1,200 has now shrunk to 800 if RM continue like this we will be looking at a workforce of about 400-500 people with the biggest majority being part time.

400 in GMC? people are behaving like frightened rabbits, imho the late shift has struggled this week and we need more recruitment of ltft on this shift to replace the night shift SAs because these are the guys who are being targetted for early retirements and when they go it'll leave a big gap, some sections (HSP, OSS) wouldn't be able to run without them, how pathetic is this depending on OT just to cope with normal workloads.
