But in these situations the P/T member gets to call the shots...."yes...I will work my day off but only on my own shift" , to which the DOM is more than happy to accommodate..!! It's either that or be a duty down....but there is always someone that suffers , and that's the floater...!! Whom I try to appease with a decent shift..!
This is only allowed to happen if the DOM has exhausted every avenue and cannot cover the shift by any other means.Correct me if I'm wrong but....RM basically kinda own you from your start time to your finish time , if they ask me to sweep the floor for 8hrs....I'll do it,then stop on my time an go home..!! Does it not say on the bottom of your 318 "or as instructed"....if they give you an instruction....as long as its a last resort and its do-able , then you've got to do it..! Just make it as awkward as you can and you will get very little done....but if you stonewall refuse to work , then they obviously won't be happy...!!
So is it ok then if your floater works his day off by doing your duty and you get moved?
I ain't got a floater......I'm a 4 day rural who's signed to cover my own days off. Whole office was asked if they wanted to do this...some do , some don't..!! But fellow F/T members who are on the same have been told to move duty to another , to accomodate office circumstances....ie...cover all duties..!! As I said before...if they ask me to do whatever...I'll do it..!! I'll stamp my feet an go in a strop but I can't refuse stonewall not to work...!!

FFS! we are our own worst enemy at times, spoodoo, you've posted this before haven't you.

This shouldn't be happening, and any postie that knocks someone off their duty for easy docket in this way is a f***ing scumbag.

This doesn't happen at my place and never will, and any rep letting it go on is bang out of order!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

mclovin wrote:Is it a reasonable request?? I once got moved 3 times in the same day, many years ago, it peed me off but I just got on with it. No point in having a go at the lad who the manager has asked to come in, its hardly his fault is it. Its down to your line manager, the buck stops there. But I bet you he says is a reasonable request. What does it matter where you do your hours as long as you get paid
With respect, that is utter cobblers. Of course it's his fault. He's clearly stated that he'll only work his day off if it's on his own walk. If he hadn't stipulated that the line manager wouldn't ask to move the floater.

As regards your last sentence, that's the question you should be asking blokes that will only work their day off on their own duty.

Use grievance procedure get your rep involved every time this happens without your agreement.

I would stress that you only take this out on the postie if he knows what hes doing and is being selfish. I lived in my own little world for months after I joined and was always asked to work my day off. I would just do what I'm told and didn't even know what a floater was!

Excuse my ignorance but I don't know how they organise floaters. Do they do the same 5 walks every week?

Same thing has just happened to me...stupidly enough i agreed to swap to a different duty :arrrghhh , while the person comes in to do his normal duty. I am senior to the guy that comes in to work his day off + he was a strike breaker...so he is basically getting the best of both worlds while i and others are getting s*** on from above.

It won't happen again :so there

In our office its always been that if the postie covering the duty wants to stay on that duty then the duty holder must be put elsewhere, I'd take it further if you're not happy :Very Happy

use the grievance procedure. I'm getting a load of sht at the mo and I've decided to put it all down on paper

also, when you go off with stress they're not allowed to contact you.

good luck and don't let them grind you down!

dont be a soft touch, they cannot kick you off YOUR DUTY so the regular can work overtime unless you agree to it, if the regular wants to come in then its up to him to pick another walk. That walk is your duty on that day, on that day it belongs to you if you picked it as a duty. When its your day off ask your manager if you can come in and do his walk and see how he likes it, if your manager says no then ask for a grievance for as that is harrassment and bullying if you are not given the same treatment.

Guys if you stand up for yourselves more it WONT happen.

We call these a rest day cover duty.
Floaters are reserves who dont have a duty when the A/L spread is not full and no one is of sick.Mind you it only happens once in a blue moon as bods are always off sick :whistle

I will ONLY do my own duty on my day off, simple as. And as I'm the only one off that day who's actually willing to work their day off thats exactly what happens. Luckily for me I dont have a regular floater so no-one gets messed around. If it was the case good luck to the gaffer getting another duty covered.
