Re: backstabbing fellow posties
Is it a reasonable request?? I once got moved 3 times in the same day, many years ago, it peed me off but I just got on with it. No point in having a go at the lad who the manager has asked to come in, its hardly his fault is it. Its down to your line manager, the buck stops there. But I bet you he says is a reasonable request. What does it matter where you do your hours as long as you get paid?

Totally sympathise with members who are caught up in this messy twist,an it's usually P/T's who never seem to ever get a break..!! But in these situations the P/T member gets to call the shots...."yes...I will work my day off but only on my own shift" , to which the DOM is more than happy to accommodate..!! It's either that or be a duty down....but there is always someone that suffers , and that's the floater...!! Whom I try to appease with a decent shift..!
This is only allowed to happen if the DOM has exhausted every avenue and cannot cover the shift by any other means.Correct me if I'm wrong but....RM basically kinda own you from your start time to your finish time , if they ask me to sweep the floor for 8hrs....I'll do it,then stop on my time an go home..!! Does it not say on the bottom of your 318 "or as instructed"....if they give you an instruction....as long as its a last resort and its do-able , then you've got to do it..! Just make it as awkward as you can and you will get very little done....but if you stonewall refuse to work , then they obviously won't be happy...!!

As for seniority then???
RM are paying you to do what they ask in the hours they pay you, true. Is it too much too ask them to do it fairly?
Moving one guy onto crappy duties every week so that some other dude can do a nice straight forward days overtime hardly seems fair to me.

i would of thought that someone coming in on overtime would be coming in for a duty with no cover, not the duty you are on. make a stand with your rep
It's life Jim but not as we know it

From the Pay and Mod deal
It is all about managers, reps and employees working together sensibly with a bit of give and take, applying equally to all. This is not about employees not knowing what job they are on, or when they start and finish from one day to the next. Nor is it about anyone refusing reasonable requests. Account should of course always be taken of individual circumstances

So is it ok then if your floater works his day off by doing your duty and you get moved?HESS wrote:Totally sympathise with members who are caught up in this messy twist,an it's usually P/T's who never seem to ever get a break..!! The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Re: backstabbing fellow posties
I'm a floater (or a reserve - don't know if there's a difference), and this happens all the time. Every week. It doesn't bother me too much, as I tend not to do the walk I hate, and do another instead. It seems to go without saying, that when a duty holder is asked to work his day off, he'll work on his own duty. A lot can only do one duty anyway. Also, I didn't know you signed to be a floater, I thought you just signed for a particular duty. I know I haven't signed anything.
