London to decide on further strikes on Monday

The only jobs the PEC managed to save via the Interim Agreement were their own - faced with the prospect of the biggest industrial battle of the last 50 years they simply bottled it & took the bung - the offer to remain in place earning a fair pay for sweet fa unlike those they are supposed to of represented. If the talks they agreed to remain fruitless then both Billy Hayes & Dave Ward should resign with immediate effect & leave the union potless. For many years all ive heard from the reps is that 'WE' the members are the weakness in the union & 'NOT' the leadership that we all have always referred to as poor, however cometh the hour it was the great inspirational leaders that threw the towel in, not those manning the trenches ready for the battle.

The leaders of the CWU must of been bought off, there is no other logical answer other than this. (Political Persuasion)

However I do believe there is a chronic waste of CWU funds that should be spent on the members, not cushy little numbers for the chosen few...

Did all those reps and officials really have to go all the way to London to let the PEC and the senior staff know they and the members know the interim agrement is flimsy and open to interpretation?

Sorry mate, as you know i'm fully aware of your reasons, however I can't help but feel you are gunning for the collapse of the CWU in a form of pay back.

Yes, we all know the CWU ain't perfect (far, far from that) and yes, some (many) abuse there position within the Union but at a time like this, this Union is all we've got and I for one see our strength in our members not in our leaders. So as long as we do have the majority strength in members we still have a chance to hold back the tide...

more than anything I too cannot abide to see one single member turned over..and I am sure Barry from Eastenders will confirm that was always my position when I was representing....no personal agendas, no favouritsm, no prejudging...just making sure I put their side across and what the situation was either legally, or in line with national agreements...

i don't wish to belittle the efforts made but time is of the essence, the clock doesn't stop.
Why are our reps going to ask the PEC if we can go on strike. Why are they not telling them this is whats happening. IMHO the PEC meed to experiance what others are telling them surely.
I accept that a deal was put to the negotiators that had to be accepted, otherwise the union would appear to be totally unreasonable in their demands to the TUC and anyone else watching.
Now though, as i have said time is crucial, it is everything. 48 hours here, give it till friday there, wait till our next review.
I would not be at all surprised if the busines strung it out till the review of mid december and said "nah f*ck it, you lot can go and poke it we've done our bit christmas is over you can go do your worst in JANUARY", the union take 48 hours to kick its arse into gear and give 7 days notice taking us up to the 20 something of december and guess what nobody bothers to walk because they see no point, who on here would blame them for not going.
The time is NOW, tomorrow takes 24 hours off the clock.

what the CWU hierachy has to understand is they are here to represent the guys that pay their wages ie the membership, we should be their #1 priority, but they are only interested furthering their potential political careers like AJ, thus they do not want to upset their chances of being a future Labour MP, make no doubt had the tories been in power since '97 the union would have been at the forefront of the strikes. Lets be honest here the CWU had no real stomach for the fight in 2007 as it was upseting the labour goverment hence they shafted us, this time round it was the postmen that iniated the strikes as the union had no stomach to do further damage to a already crippled labour goverment hence the union leadership's dragging of their feet for months while the membership demanded a national ballot, eventually they reluctantly decided to hold a national ballot with a overwhelming mandate for strike action, after 2 strike days they decided to shaft us by declaring a period of calm (they never learned from 2007) which Royal Mail (and everybody else apart from hayes, ward and PEC) considers a sign of weakness.

The CWU leadership/HQ has to understand when units want to re-activate local strikes, it is their duty to re-activate them instead of fobbing off units, it is all good and well for the CWU hierachy to fob us off but we are the ones that have to put up with Royal Mails shenanigans on a daily basis and not them ... i reiterate to the CWU leadership YOU ARE HERE TO SERVE US and not your f*cking selves ... show a bit of backbone and do the bloodly job we are paying you to do ie fight for our interests

Just because London are having problems does that mean we all have to walk?? If Birmingham was having problems would everyone be so willing?? If advancements are being made in other areas why should they go on strike?? To me i don't think any strikes will be called before christmas. it is not just London having problems it is all over the country Glasgow and Edinburgh Mail Centres last monday tried to get their local strikes re-activated with no success from HQ
