RM managers are the worst!
Thats sounds a bit weird to me :shock: , how can someone do that in a friendly way? :nervous
like; "hey *******, nice job" *patt* *patt* *rub(with a kind of pinch at the end)*

its not in a gay way or anything.... im not gay :S
sometimes this " male bonding " is a way of softening people up for the next thing he has planned for you , see how far he'd get on the town on a Friday / Saturday night acting in a " manly friendly way " :hmmmm :hmmmm - log all the instances - it's inappropriate end of and hypocritical considering
With respect SeriousSam, if what you are claiming is true then it would appear to be a form of sexual harassment and has no such place in the workplace, your words he patts me on the butt and kinda pinches/rubs it, it is not in a sexual way just in a manly friendly way, but it's still weird to true it's weird it is as has been said a form of sexual harassment. “A slap or patt on the buttocks in the office setting has yet to replace the
handshake.”

The manly friendly way to which you refer would be for your manager to shake your hand for a job well done.

Importance of Communicating That Words or Actions Are Unwelcome:
Obviously, if someone is being harassed, he or she should be sure to let the alleged harasser know in no uncertain terms to stop the behavior. If the employee is not able to do so alone, the employee can ask a friend or a trusted coworker to help him or her talk to the alleged harasser. This does not mean that the victim has to confront the alleged harasser or put it in writing. Nonverbal behavior can also be sufficient in some cases to communicate unwelcomeness. “No” means “no,” whether it is communicated verbally or nonverbally. However, a clearly communicated “no” more often deters the harassment.
Serious Sam - In a nutshell what Brother Magrew is saying is you have to give the apparent perpetrator , " the gypsies warning " or a sporting chance so you can appear " reasonable " on Planet RM , that way it's harder for RM to twist things round and accuse you of being a " troublemaker " trying to cause a stir . If there's any way of wriggling out of something & closing ranks to protect their managers as it doesn't fit Royal Mail's agenda - RM will use it - end of .

Familiarity breeds contempt & that could be viewed as overfamiliarality - so think on !

Royal Mail's record in the past on sexual harassment within the workplace against female colleagues was disgraceful to say the least. Although steps were initiated when the EOC decided to embark on a formal investigation into sexual harassment of women employees in the Royal Mail business unit - the mail sorting offices and postmen and postwomen - of the Royal Mail Group plc in 2003.

During the period January 1999 and July 2002:

■Forty-eight claims of sex discrimination against the business unit of Consignia, now RMG plc, were taken in Employment Tribunals.

■There were 140 internal formal complaints of sexual harassment made by female postal workers. Of these, 130 internal investigations have been completed and 65% of the complaints were upheld. Sixty of the complaints involved allegations against a male manager.

■The EOC also received 22 complaints, many of which included an allegation that management had failed to investigate complaints of sexual harassment promptly, fairly or at all.

In 2002 the EOC assisted in three claims of sexual harassment by women postal workers, all of which were settled. In one of these cases, a postwoman was sexually assaulted by a colleague. He was dismissed from his job and later convicted and imprisoned for six months. In another a postwoman alleged that she was sexually harassed by a postman over a period of several months. One of the women felt she had no alternative but to resign. The EOC also provided representation in two sexual harassment cases in 2000, both of which settled with very substantial sums of compensation being paid to the applicants.

And like BELIAL and bunkerland my initial thoughts were that this original posting was one of the many crass and stupid wind ups or piss takes. However, it does not deter one iota from the fact that sexual harassment of whatever form within the workplace is wrong no matter who it is perpetrated against.

As Dvbuk 55 has said , he might have a bit of banter with DGP , there might be banter at work which is near the knuckle , but he'd be mortified if he was accused of anything untowards to female staff . That's the difference , that manager doesn't appears to know the difference and crosses that line - Wake Up - Get Real FFS !

OK Sam you are not lying and I take what you say at face value. However, the issue at stake is not that you are comfortable with your own sexuality and that you do not see it as gay. It is blatantly a form of sexual harassment regardless of the fact that in your own words (he is not grabbing my package or anything).

Sexual harassment may take the following forms:
- The display of sexist or sex-oriented material which causes offense, this could include posters, calendars and even works of art which would be inappropriate when displayed in the work place;
- sexually-oriented kidding, innuendo, jokes or verbal abuse;
- non-verbal acts like leering or sexual gestures;
- repeated questioning about aspects of a person’s private life;
- exertion of pressure or requests for sexual favours with implied or overt promises of preferential treatment, or threats concerning and individual’s employment status;
- physical contact such as patting, pinching or touching, hugging and brushing against another person’s body;
- sexual assault or rape.

You will recall in one of your previous postings things he does (kinda annoying/strange, patts on the butt, kinda pinches/rubs it, not in a sexual way just in a man friendly way, but it's still weird). Why therefore do you view it as being annoying, strange and weird if it is not a form of sexual harassment?

Lastly nobody is trying to take the piss out of what you have said, rather trying to open your eyes to what is actually happening. It was your choice to post what you did out of kilter from your original topic it was mine and others choice to respond to your posting.

We've had managers threatening to do people for physical assault just because
they put their arm around the manager's shoulder in a joking manner.
I think if your manager wanted to show appreciation he could pat you on the back.

and RM would try and make the " physical assault " charge stick - there's ways and means & that person on a charge would be wanting the union to get him back from suspension :hmmmm

Sam the point was you don't sexually harass anybody - full stop . I doubt if what you describe could be regarded as horseplay .

If you DO B&H that manager - do it through the Union , ring their B&H line & you will be well advised . The problem is that RM are not to be trusted in this regard , their B&H policy is often abused and is a corrupt scam at times . As far as RM can be concerned , they've "discouraged" staff from making B&H claims .

They have been known for twisting everything round on it's head and you could lose your job . If you don't you'll end up on probation , you'll have been taught a " lesson " & it's to keep you on your toes .

It MAY be better if you under union advice , register a B&H complaint with RM Rugby , then go through the deliberately tedious grievance procedure , at least you'll have a paper trail to back you up for possible future use .

For example - in one B&H investigation - one bloke was told by a " Independent " investigating manager to ignore packet thieving by friends of a manager . He reported them to the IB , RM then spitefully interviewed everyone that didn't like the bloke and that bloke was sacked on trumped up H&B charges .

What I'm suggesting is that you box clever with RM , you don't go all guns blazing otherwise RM will make it their business to make sure it blows up in your face , there's more than one way of skinning a cat :hmmmm .

The Union will advise you as to how to proceed . You must have diarized evidence about incidents , who , when , where , what etc to back up your claim .

RM's Achilles Heel is their arrogance , target that Achilles Heel as RM as sure as hell will be looking for " weaknesses " in your case .

At the end of the day , most firms ( not just RM ) fear a dismissed or disciplined twisted manager with a almighty chip on his / her shoulder taking them to Tribunal & doing a lot of damage to corporate image - hence the closing of ranks and protecting managers .

because it keeps a lid on things - Years ago there was two bad cases - one - the suicide of Jermaine Lee at Brum MC , and a bad racism case ( including managers ) at Harlow DO , RM were threatened with investigation by the Equal Opportunities Commission & Commission for Racial Equality , to avoid this , the RM spin and hype machine went into overdrive and a H&B policy was wheeled out .

Problem was too many people put complaints in about DRAW , p****ing on RM's parade so staff had to be "discouraged" . The other problem at Brum MC after Jermiane was that a Area Manager had to fall on his sword and resign . He took RM to Tribunal for Constructive Dismissal giving RM a problem so it was considered prudent to protect their managers whenever possible .

To be fair , most firms fear this , RM is the worst of the old school RM & worst of the corporate " brave new world " , too much politics , too much top down regimentation so things are taken to literal extremes .

Sam i agree with the advice here as you have to stop this daily abuse now before other people in your office catch on and it becomes a big joke.

Before you strike with the B&H could you not approach the man and tell him you no longer see it as a joke and wish it to stop.That may be the end of it. Of course if it carries on then hit with the B&H. What do you think :hmmmm
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........
