Now now ladies I didn't say you were given preferential treatment but all us men have a soft spot for the ladies and so if there were two candidates with equal service the likely winner would be the lady. I am not saying that all women are treated the same but there is that bias towards a woman - where the male psyche is involved that is.

We once had a female manager and she had a soft spot for me - she said it was where the pond used to be in her garden and I don't think she was joking

Now for the bloke patting the other blokes bum - don't ask for a transfer there :whistle

Hi
I feel we have gone off the question here. I was hoping someone could give me a solid answer, along with documentation or literature that I could use if I am going to challenge this. If it went on time served then I would of been 28th in line for a duty. But as it is, I have droped down to 76th place, and very near the bottom of the list. Losing out to 48 people whu have less service than me.

A resign is pretty much an office based decision and requires a Rep who is prepared to stick up for the rights of the long serving members. It was once a very simple procedure, but as time has gone on that has become clouded by DDA, Family Friendly and the rules of whether or not the duty has been affected by change.
The short answer is there are really no hard and fast rules now it is more a question of what is acceptable to the membership in your office and which the management agree to. As stated previously all affected duties, less those that are by appointment as specialist duties, should be subject to seniority. What does your Rep think?

Ok i;ll suggest a fair way

Repick on seniority for duties

All Overtime is offered to part-time staff first so that they can get same pay as (usually) more senior staff

Both sides get a perk

its effectavly Ageism .as more senior will nearly always be older.

some mentally stunted people say its best, otherwise managers will pick your duities for you..well ,hello that makes the most sence to me.duties on ability not seniority.a managers isnt going to put the 60 year old with back problems and a double hernia on the largest town round.hes going to put him on the cushy rural with 200 delivery points.the runners will be put on the town rounds..

makes perfect sense and works in EVERY other company in britain even probably the world

Nice way to make a point and debate - insult people who support a different point of view.

Rules:
If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/community/rules.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

To be fair I wont give you a warning because you are collecting them like mad, but any clear breaches of the rule again I will issue both a ban and a warning.

This is your last chance, however, I have no doubt you will be back with another name change, again. :arrrghhh

I really don't understand you, you join a forum but blatantly ignore the rules you agreed to and then shout freedom of speech and call me a Nazi (later changed to SOB) - if you don't like our rules then please set up your own site and make your own rules up.
again, nobody in this thread had yet said its better than letting the manager decide,so i cant of been insulting anyone.
in which case i clearly followed the rules, and you have again got your knickers in a twist for no reason other than ,the power trip you so clearly are enjoying at my expense

My managers and most others would put the senior on the hardest walk (In the private sector its called working them out of the business and its done ALL over the world!) Why would they do that i hear you say?
1/ Older senior workers get more holiday = higher costs and less productivity for RM!
2/ Older senior workers get a better pension = higher costs the longer they stay at RM!
3/ Older senior workers know the lay of the land and get the most out of employment = higher costs to RM!
4/ Older senior workers tend to have more work related illnesses because of a life at work = higher costs to RM!
5/ Older senior workers still have bonuses and such that less senior Ones dont get = higher costs to RM!
In short RM would love a chance to get rid of seniors after say Ten to Fifteen years to save a huge ammount of cash and improving productivety in such a cynical way even though they would have half worked less seniors into the grave to get to the top of the seniorority list as well as looking after the office flyers creeps and pets for doing their bidding! Seniority is fair having very flawed managers hand out duties on who sucks up the most is NOT.
i respect your opinion ,even if it is wrong my friend.
its called constructive dismissal and lets be honest.if the manager did do that the old gezzer would get a very nice pay out to go with his early pension payout .all the guys nearing retirment age in our office would just love this approch.they all want to take redundancy now but they arnt allowed.

Back to the orginal question your whole service provided there are no breaks is counted in seniority. It is covered in the way forward national agreement.

However offices do vary on whether part timers can sign for duties which are marked as full time duties. But your five years service has to be counted in your seniorty. If your having trouble speak to your rep or area rep and remind them of the way forward agreement which made seniority count on a national basis. Prior to this agreement you went to the bottom of the seniority list if you transfered out of your district postcode.

As I understand it some offices have duties which are allocated as FT or PT whereas other offices all have duties which can be filled by PT or FT and these the number of FT/PT is worked out on a ratio basis.

My office works on FT duties and PT duties which helped me because I went and got a duty which no one else would do.

Female members of staff were treated no different in terms of what walk they were on.

You carry your seniority from office to office aswell but seen as you have been made down to a 20 hr contract im not sure whether this effect your seniority. I very much doudt it will but to make sure see your rep or you will be shafted my friend if i find any info for you will post up.

I don't want to be offensive - but, it is my experience that female members of staff are treated shall we say more fairly than male members. Consequently it is more likely that a manager would favour a female postie over a male if they were given the option.

It's always the ones who have no service in that feel they are superior and god forbid YOU should ever get a double hernia and a bad back and put your trust in the fairness of a manager.
What a joke that is, I am a female postie 16 years service & I have always had s**t ,long ,heavy walks so where you getting your info from.

Do I work in your office - no, I am a male postie 20 years + and I did say in my experience - which is not inconsiderable.
