Compact sorters targets

First time on RMC, but need some help. Has anyone who works on compact sorters been given targets ie 5 mins to tie up and 16k an hour. Need advice for good argument

CSS -the new walk sequence machines.No agreements on tie down rates as far as i know,but don't mean they wont try and bully you!
Just go at what you think is a fair and safe rate mate,balls to em,!

We've been running the Solystic CCS's for about 2 years now. The subject of 'down time' comes up now and again.

The work plan requires us to clear down to stacker 12,load up the next batch,start the machine and then clear down the remalning 7 stackers. This gives a turn around time of about 4 minutes. Very difficult to keep this pace up all night and at the moment they don't push it.However soon there's a software update which will give them instant info about individual operators so I reckon after Christmas they'll start racking up the pressure.

Running a CSS machine is the hardest work I've done in 20 years but at least the time goes quickly !!!!

Don't forget that LSMs, iLSMs and the LSM section of an IMP can be used for walk sequencing.

Don't forget that LSMs, iLSMs and the LSM section of an IMP can be used for walk sequencing.

i know mate,but you need at least 2 people per lsm or imp,a CSS is a 1 man machine,and also runs faster than any of the others!NO THANKS

What is a CSS machine actually used for sorting? Does it sort mail according to postcodes, size?

A CSS machine will sequence mail to a postmans round, it organises mail in delivery order; High Street 1,3,5,7,9, 2,4,6,8, etc,
this enables posties to prep' their rounds a wee bit quicker,
the machine reads the faint barcodes u see on letters, usually in the bottom right corner, if theres no barcode, it's rejected.
they will accept "pop" and C5 letters, but nothing bigger than that.
CSS machines can also walksort mail (in random/unsequenced order) for delivery, although it's obviously preferred that we sequence).

Can also sort mail to just DO as well,what we used to call the "mother plan",so mail can be sorted just to the DO,as can be seen at Christmas if it all goes tits up!
