It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

All i can say is your damm lucky you have the people to do the i.p.s. Before the geo-route was introduced, we had seven duties doing it, now we would be lucky if there was three on i.p.s. If the doms want to reduce the 40hr duties down to 30hrs and then expect the rest of us to complete the ips and then complete our walks/ruarls in our contracted time thats their problem. cut-off is the only weapon left. i.m.h.o.

 Only get annoyed with the blue eyed boys who are allowed to skive in a way we are not--i.e. talking but not sorting while others are told to shut up.

Oh God, if only there was some kind of supervision at our place that would get people sorting. All the little hitlers are hidden away in the office.

at this mornings huddle we were told any one caught at their frames before primary was up would be taken down the conduct code road.this was mainly aimed at our polish quartet who take it in turn to nip back to their frames every day :no no .they stayed put today, but sure they will be at it again.b.t.w i get on well with all of them and have even picked up some of the language so no hidden agenda meant in this .just want them to pull their weight(and learn the sorting)the same as everyone else.

 Very sad but true--we are not and have not been allowed to talk whilst sorting for ages now--except of course for the blue eyed boys and the creepy managers who are looking for a friend, that's why I come home and get straight on this board, just for a good yak!And we are actively discouraged from asking pertinent questions In W.T.L sessions.TRUE.

Our place is like a zoo during IPS, Radio blaring everyone having a banter, having a brew and all the usual shouts of ''cutting off'' .... ''anybody know such a place..'' ..... ''We don't do Marlborough... Swindon you stupid twats..''.. etc :nana

Thats terrible its almost like working under Victorian work house conditions  I am shocked. Our sorting is really lively with local discussions and joint shouts of “turn it up” or “turn it off” depending on what being played very loud on the hifi stereo. :nana

Only once many years ago did we have a DOM who tried to make us sort in silence . We all decided to got to the loo at the same time one day and there was a 20 min queue. He did not last long anyway as he had a total breakdown and actually went mad getting himself sectioned.

I have heard of one office that does 6 day weeks (48 hours) but gets paid 40 hours - the 6th week is a stand down week (which you can work if there is capacity to do so) and you get paid the same 40 hours. Basically you bank the extra 8 hours each week to use on the week off for pay.

Thats what we do. I thought it was commonplace.

He he... I wouldn't mind if some of the long serving sorters used the overhead charts to improve their accuracy.

The walks have been altered and changed so much in the last year or two that putting mail into holes where they used to go, ends up with a pile of missorts that require double handling (a bit like the packets)
