London to decide on further strikes on Monday

Dvbuk , as I explained at the weekend the words of the interim agreement was not an issue, the acid test was always going to be whether management were going to abide by them.

It is fair to say that in some regions they have but in the majority they have not. For example because London covers two regional managers we have two seperate meetings with both the Thames Valley Director Rob Jenson and the London Director Gerry O Rourke. We could well have been discussing two totally different agreements. In Thames Valley region Jenson was saying all the right things and agreeing principle to moving forward in the way we saw the agreement operating. Where as in London the Directors are still in full attack mode and clearly want to discriminate against those who supported the strike and those who didn't.

In addition they want to continue to impose change including not offering reasonable levels of overtime in line with agreement.

Tomorrow at the National Briefing I believe that the briefing from the Top of the union downwards will send a clear message to Royal Mail that they have until the end of the weekend to resolve the issues or we will be declaring more national action.

We are in a strong position, Royal Mail have broken the agreement and Barber and acas cannot not hide from that.

With regards to getting the members back of course we can. Your an old hand and you will know in past disputes the cwu have stood down action even when we have not got an agreement. So providing we do the work of course we can get the members out.

One myth which will be dispelled which a lot peddled on this board is that we agreed to no more action before christmas. Watch this space and hope your ready to eat your words.

Glasgow is in same position despite xmas casuals being in MC there is nothing like the levels of overtime being booked at this time of year compared to others.
So I believe that some managers think the agreement is not worth the paper it is written on and are carrying on regardless so its time to dig out the winter woolies cos it can be quite nippy on the picket line at this time of year. :cfo

I hope you are right and despite my earlier posts, which was a knee jerk reaction, I will be out and on the picket line BUT why in the name of God did we call off the strikes without any agreement or concessions. A promise of talks and a new understanding??? I can tell you this, there is a stronger feeling of being betrayed by this capitulation than there was after the 2007/9 agreement and there will not be as solid a take up if it does come to more IA and that is not knee jerk Dingo that is reality. Before our guys go out this time they will want a cast iron guarantee that they won't be going back until we DO have an agreement which IS enforceable and they are certain that HQ are solidly behind them.

The reality is we are 4 days into a so called agreement and already it is failing which begs the question do we have the right men for the job.

Much as I could be critical of John Keggie at times we would never have been in this debacle or had the same pish in 2007 ..cos for all that he was and I am not saying he was perfect but at least he could talk and negotiate..comapere him to the likes of Hayes who stumbles and mumbles through interviews there is no contest :cfo

1= Thats the problem, not for the first time have the CWU "stood down action even when we have not got an agreement."

2= You assume that the members of the CWU are all SHEEP and " providing we do the work of course we can get the members out "

We have been fooled once to often

At the end of the day the MEMBERS OF THE CWU were RIGHT, we all said that RM would not hold to a partial " form of words " deal. But you and others DEFENDED the PEC's decision to trust RM.

So have some humility and admit the MAJORITY of members could see what was going to happen and the leadership was wrong to trust RM to stick to any deal.

The CWU have thrown away both the members trust & the public support for the strikes, if we go out again, the public will think ( with the newspapers help )that its greedy, left wing & lazy london posties that want to strike & spoil christmas.

As a London postie, unless the action is national you will struggle to get people out the door. Untill it became national the impact was minimal as was media coverage. If you ask us to go out without national support AGAIN, at my office at least the take up may not be great
