Correct - as per guidelines - however instances may occur when on delivery that mean completion within duty time is impossible/impracticable.

DELIVERY

3.1 PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT

a) Where an employee feels that on completion of preparation he/she may experience difficulty in completing his/her delivery within the authorised time allotted, he/she should approach his/her manager as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem and advise the employee what particular action should be taken.

b) When an individual has requested assistance on delivery, but the manager feels that assistance is not required, this decision along with the advice given to the employee will be recorded and associated with the daily traffic volume records. The employee can have access to this record and may ask to see it prior to commencement of his/her delivery. In addition to recording the employee’s request, the employee will be instructed to ring his/her local manager prior to a specified time or as soon as possible if full completion of delivery workload within the time allotted proves not to be possible.

3.2 AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF DELIVERY

a) If an individual is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that this is reported immediately either by returning to the office or by telephone (telephone costs will be refunded). A written record will be kept.

b) All employees should be informed of the local authorised arrangements, in writing, preferably in plastic card form if available.

4. GENERAL

a) Employees must be made aware that mail must NEVER be taken home at the end of a delivery. Correct endorsement procedures and correct use of the pouching off wallet, if appropriate, will avoid this.

b) Although the main aim will be to avoid the circumstances that may pose operational difficulties to an employee and to find ways of overcoming any potential problem at a very early stage, it is also important that all employees are made fully aware of the implications of delaying mail and possible consequences.

c) Measures shall be put in place to advise staff on the course of action to be taken when difficulties arise when managers are unavailable.

The Delivery O.T ban is not yet in effect in our office , but the current 'walk lapsing' farce is. According to Higson and his numb nutted side kick that mail volumes are down 10%, but anyone who actually sorts, transports and delivers the mail, knows fully well other wise.

We've been told so many variations of the 'over time' scenario, it would make your head spin Exorcist style. We are told that the lapsed walk is to be done 'with in' duty. So, considering time spent on the Inward, throwing-In, Prep (including d2d prep), missorts, deads and re-directions ( and squeezing in a ten minute break for a brew/ ciggie - which I've now been told we are not entitled too) *phew*. You then have to get out to your walk, do said walk and .. have a forty minute meal relief thrown in.and time to pouch off any mail/ packets you couldn't get rid of. And with the vanishing act of most P.O's - not all of them are as close as our line-managers lead us to believe.

In our office we have people cutting off during their throwing in so they can do their bit of their walk lapsing! Some even come in early so they have time to do it! It's behaviour like this, is why we HAVE walk lapsing.

The procedure in asking for an instruction with regards to going over you time is of Laurel and Hardy proportions:

"Box it all off and then come and see me before you start to throw it all in " - which is then changed to "Throw it all in and come and see me before you go out". Either way, your then referred to the alternative instruction. And, naturally this changes every time we have a floating DOM / Assistant DOM ( who will always stand around and then just tell you to ask your line manager!)

Most managers will try and play the guilt card and try and make you feel like your in the wrong and that they have no one else to help you and that your going to have to do it and then just book the time the next day. Which then open another can of worms for those with child care issues and something outside of the Royal Mail that we all have beyond 1.50pm (once you've taken your meal relief off the end of your delivery span).... a life!

Play it back my friend, ask your LM or DOM for a bit of cash from them, Everyone knows they got their bonus off of yours and your colleagues back so can you have some as you've bills to pay and that £10 from the hour they should be paying you will help keep the wolves from the door today, tomorrows another story and you'll see them then if needs be.
Alternatively take you LM or DOM to the nearest phone in your office and tell them to phone someone who gives a f**k (possibly flower it up a bit).
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

 does this include the normal christmas pressure overtime? Agree that this is only to protect the managers bonus.
my day off today, and on the morning news, R/M were on saying there will be no strikes over the christmas period. Has this
been agreed with the Union behind our backs? my understanding was we could still go on strike if R/M did not stick to the agreed terms (Which they are not doing)
Where are the Union?!!!!!

I do love this sweeping statement made by the Royal Mail that they'll be NO MORE STRIKES BEFORE CHRISTMAS !It stinks of propaganda and making us out to be the Grinch of Christmas if we kick up a fuss about anything.

Fundamentally, the Royal Mail are giving themselves carte blanch to implement what ever they like over the Christmas period using their steam-rolling public relations department, with Sky being one of the main perpetrators of this 'Just read the press release we gave you and don't deviate from it" technique. We will always be painted and seen as the ones who broke the agreement, pulled the dummies out of our mouths and thrown a hissy fit.The public are already fed this nonsense by many media outlets that we are lazy, money grabbing Communists anyway.

There is a falsehood put about by the Royal Mail at this time, that you HAVE to work over-time over Christmas, this is wholly untrue and I printed out the quote disputing this from the CWU website, much to my DOM's annoyance. :dance :dance

Ever since the changes in our office Im doing 1-3 hours overtime everyday to get my round finished. They have never not payed me the overtime but I do get a load of hassle from the boss and apparently a manager is gonna come out and test my round. :cuppa

The walks that have been changed in my office the people on those walks are given the choice of completing and claiming OT or leaving part of the walk for a casual to take out.

Whats really pissing people off now is they are being told not to do IPS so they can throw more work off.

if your DO has members coming in early, working lunch break and through various practices finishing over an hour before duty end then management will see that type of practice as the minimum standard and impose those values on the office in general. This will isolate staff doing the job correctly which may lead to undue pressure to adopt these practices.
If over 50% of your depot finish over an hour before official duty end then RM will impose absorbtion/lapsing and whatever overtime is currently being paid will stop, they will argue you have spare capicity under phase 3 and the 1.5% pay rise was the agreement for this.
Don't shoot yourself in the foot by suggesting your walk is not a 3.5 hr delivery span by returning early, if you do then don't expect support from other members when a revision comes in and you have an extra few roads added onto your walk.

This is against the spirit of the Pay and Mod deal  The idea is to reduce the levels of casuals in an office.

We should tell them to stick their Chrimbo OT where the sun dont shine, why the feck do we go through this charade every year,SA,WTF is that? a couple of £ more on your wage slip, this year Im asking the folk in our office to just work the 40 hours,no more no less,in view of the last few weeks I feel we may have a receptive audience this time.
The more you know, the worse it gets.
