Magnum ice skates is it worth a claim!

Post by annann »

I slipped on delivery last year while wearing the old style Magnum boots. This has resulted in an operation, 6 months absence from work and still not 100% fit. I am thinking of putting a claim in against royal mail but have heard that they are not accepting responsibility. Does anyone know of any other postman who has had a serious accident while wearing this footwear, or if anyone has been successful with a claim.

I went over on ice/snow in January whilst wearing Magnums, don't think I can make a case against the Magnums but I have put a form into the CWU (LS3 form) and also put a form into the DWP for Industrial Accident Benefit as I'm still having problems with my leg, so that may be a start for you.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

After the magnums had been out for a while RM did issue advice that they should initially be worn in dry weather... presumably to take the 'shine' off the bottom of them.
this indicates that they were aware that there was a problem with them yet they continued to issue them.
I remember the first time i wore mine in the wet, i could hardly stand up! so embarrassing having little old ladies marching past me whilst i was tottering along hanging on to every railing and lamp-post for support!!

The only RM stuff i wear are my short sleeved shirts and my HiViz, everything else is my own.

I know they should provide me with the right gear but when it comes to being comfortable for 6 hours a day I'm not going to cut my nose off to spite my face.

I slipped whilst wearing the same footwear in January, which resulted in an operation and I am waiting for a date for another one.

I went thru the union then thru Simpson Millar who after looking into my case said that there was a less than 50/50 chance of winning so would they not take it any further.

I reported it to DWP who ruled it an industrial accident and sent me for a medical with ATOS who in turn ruled me 25% disabled to be reviewed in March.

I am still on sick 10 months later and losing money thru loss of allowances and D2D each week so to say I am annoyed is an understatement. Let me know how you get on.

contact a no win no fee accident at work company, it doesnt matter if royal mail accept responsibilty ofcourse they are going to deny it but a company like this will get to the bottom of it.

I have also had my accident registered as an industrial accident, and a medical with ATOS who have ruled me 25% disabled reviewed in April. The loss of money is crap and not being able to do simple things we would normally take for granted is depressing. Will prob ring for a free half hour appointment somewhere, got nothing to loose

Search for magnums on here, there is a lot of info including that the previous ones were replaced due to the fact that the soles were no good, there is also a lot of LTB's on the subject.

At the end of the day they were no good that is why they were replaced so i can't see why you haven't got a case.
