Were the post workers’ CWU union leaders right to call off our planned strikes at Royal Mail last week?

Before we can decide this we need to answer one simple question—can we trust Royal Mail management to stick to their word and start serious negotiations?

All the indications are that we can’t. Royal Mail management is as vicious as ever, and the pause in our strike action seems to have done little to discourage their attacks.

Our members in delivery offices across Britain are still being threatened if they don’t complete new rounds by working overtime for free.

Meanwhile our mail centres are still being deliberately starved of work in order to reduce overtime.

Postal workers in my mail centre, like many others, see this battle as being about more than about defending terms and conditions.

It’s about the future of the industry and the right to have an effective union to represent you.

We voted for strike action by a massive majority.

We didn’t vote out of self-interest but because we want to be part of a national fight that stops the bosses in their tracks—and tells any future government that we will not let it privatise Royal Mail.

Everyone knows that now is the time to beat this management and Lord Mandelson.

The feeling among the people I represent is as strong as ever.

Let’s not waste this chance to hit back. Let’s restart the strikes immediately.

Not one thing has changed in my office and i don't think it will....managers still doing what they want,still no earnings and no sign of our local agreement coming back!!!.....20 strike days later and what have i got....nothing!!!....i agree get the strikes back on!!!!!!!!!!!!..WE WONT BE STRUNG ALONG AND SOLD DOWN THE RIVER!!!
