Why not spend the extra hour in bed? It would make you feel sick if you added up these hours people come in early over the course of a year because you are probably giving the royal mail a free months work.
To me that sounds like your duty is light, especially at preping up. Not unless your rural and have a lot less delivery points than these people. Then i can understand. If not how can you make up an hour and 15 minutes on the ones that come in early? Someone cant be doing their job right? Thats where i have issues. The difference in standards can be huge.

Look at what the customer wants? They want there mail correctly and as early as possible. And that is what i provide. By coming in early and finishing early my customer scores and so do i. Whats wrong with that. If the mail is there to sort why delay it when you can prep it and get out on delivery.

Im 6 -2 and generally i come in at 20 past 5, out on delivery for 8 and get around in 4 hours top. So i finish no later than 12 every day. If i add on my meal relief and for coming in early i technically owe them at least 40 mins every day. How is that working for free?

how do you get out on delivery at 8? im doing well to get on the street before 10
how early will you come in if your office is the same?
how can your duty take 4 hours? thats over time?
I get out at 8 because ips and frame prep takes no longer than 2 and a half hours.
Arnt all full time deliverys not take up to 5 hours for rurals and 4 hours on town? Thats what our duties are based on in our office.
i dont understand how you can get out for 8am
our last missort run is 9am and i can see the MC from our office
so how does your area maintain missorts before 8am with a 6am start?

We dont have a missort run. Our mail centre is 20 miles away and stopped doing it a year or so ago.

Aye we don't have to wait for missorts, about 3 days a week the DOM tells us not to worry about it and get out asap so we don't book any O.T. If there is a missort run we can go out early if we are ready and then just check when we get back if we have any missorts. Then just deliver anything important an the way home of we need to.

On a quiet day I'm out by 8 and on a normal day I can get out for 8:30. Busy days I'm out at 9 which is when we get our missorts so i can grab them on the way out the door.

not a chance in our office
a good day is being on the street for 10am
to get back to the office for my finish i need to be heading back by 1.10pm
which for the maths genius gives me 3.10 to do an oversized duty

i am a floater so i do 5 different dutys, and im usually bagged up by 9 15 , 9 times out of 10 anyway. A couple of my dutys i would consider lighter than a lot in my office but i also have a couple of heavy dutys. Even if they were heavy i still wouldnt get in early, its not my problem if its too heavy and i cant get bagged up in a decent time. I like to get bagged up late and not be able to complete because it highlights the problem of the unrealistic workload in some cases. People who get in early just paper over these cracks and screw the job up for everyone else but are so thick they wont believe you when you tell them, even after everything thats been happening recently they still do it and then have the cheek to moan about all the extra work we have to do these days. It will only get worse and a lot of it is down to the early birds.

Rural boy in our office comes in 30mins before start time, less than 200 calls and is still last out the office. He also finishes upto 30-45mins later than everyone else. To be fair though he is one useless, lazy b@stard :left: :left:

If I could work harder, serve the same amount of people and go home early of course I would. If I had to work an 8 hour day then i'd come in on time and do that, but not work as hard because there's no point.

RM know this, we know RM know this. Banking hours was tried in my office and it didn't work because nobody works for free, regardless of what anyone on here thinks. We went back to job and finish and it has been that way ever since.

Any other questions?

yes but why come in early when we know the managers are monitoring it, its this kind of behaviour that has us all absorbing walks, and if you think they will leave it at that then you are so far off the mark. They wont stop till everyone is working as close to their time as possible on a daily basis.
That's the thing, every member of staff cannot and will not work at the same rate. So the slow ones will always finish late and the fast ones will alway finish early. If RM try and give the fast ones extra work they will just do the job as per RM's guidelines (the ones that dont are idiots) - I know as it happened in my office with banking hours, that was soon ditched.

Theres one chap in my office comes in half an hour early each morning (5;30 instead of 6) then flys out of the office as soon as the missorts are in usually around 7, and if its a heavy day he'll then fork out on average 20-40 quid to others to finish his walk all so he can be finished for between 12 and half past.

And we all thought 2nd deliveries were scrapped years ago.

With regards to the title of this thread, aint it their 40th birthday this week :cuppa

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Out at 8? That's the average time we get off IPS.

And leaving missorts is wilful delay, though I guess it doesn't count because it's a DOM saying it

I naturally work quick, but RM just added and added until it didn't matter how fast I worked, I could no longer 'gain time' - so not I generally work along RM's guidelines and settle for finishing later and book O/T.

Much prefered getting home early but those days have gone for me..............

its simply shortsighted
You find yourself struggling to finish by 2.00pm
so you you come in a bit early to get a "head-start" on it.
Doms feel your not fully occupied unless your struggling ,if they see your rarely going over your time
it makes them think about adding something to your day ie lapsing or prepping another frame etc.
So much for your head start!
Your working hours for free and no better off!
