So what are you going to do?

I'm gonna put £20 on Birmingham to beat Liverpool tonight. A long shot I know. Birmingham however are 9/1 and I'm hoping Liverpool have no Torres or Gerrard.
Another really grown up post from our resident would-be strike breaker.

What the hell can I do!? I've been sold down the river. You want me to start a new Union or what? I could call it the CWUWB! Communication Workers Union With Balls!

I think im in a decent position to judge that this union is going backward, RM announce closure of 5 MCs in the NW without agreement, union response was to pull the strike and let RM close them without agreement(2 closed so far SK/OL, L,CW and BL next year) Now do you think this would have happened 10 years ago???

Now i believe that this dispute has shown what amazing strength and unity this union is capable of, but if id lost 18days pay id be mighty p**sed off aswell with the "agreement" I think this union needs to change drastically but now is not the time. Now we have to regroup and look at this as an on going dispute.

To those of you who think we have been sold out i ask you this, do you seriously think Dave Ward would do that? He must certainly believe that there is a real chance this can work, i would tend to disagree but im willing to give it a go

I think this union has been going backward for a long time but this dispute has shown two things 1)Things can easily be turned around with good leaders and reps
2)For the strikes too have lasted so long and been so solidly supported there is obviously no shortage of good reps and leaders. So i suppose the question is, is Dave Ward a good leader- well we will find out very soon, one thing is for sure hes in last chance saloon :nervous :nervous

I can understand the anger and frustration but i strongly suspect that if/when the time comes for us members to take action again we will all support our union if thats what it takes. As ive said this union aint perfect- that we can rectify that, but without the CWU the job would be unbearable

Is the union going backwards? Or is the trade union movement going backwards? Falling numbers and the disappearance of traditional industries along with the growth of service industries and part-time jobs all mean the union movement does not have the clout it had years ago.The CWU can not swim against that tide.We can not call a General Strike.
As to the closures of Mail Centres you ask if it would have happened 10 years ago? It is not 10 years ago.We have to deal with here and now.If you look at the Hooper Report (it is in the downloads I think) it shows what has happened in other countries that have "modernised" their postal industry and it has led to a halving of the number of mail centres.Change is going to happen. We are going to lose thousands more jobs.Only an ostrich with its head stuck firmly in the sand is going to argue otherwise.(Can you argue with your head in the sand?).The question is- are we going to face that future with union involvement or not?The fact our union is still in the negotiations means the strike action was a massive victory. In order to build on that victory we need to remain solidly behind our leaders.I agree with everything you say at the end of your post.
Of course the union is not perfect but now is not the time to critcise or leave.
And those that do want to leave can go and join sci-dogs new union but he doesn't seem to know if he is going to cross his own picket line.

Of all the nasty things people have ever said to me this must be the most cutting.
Correct me if I am wrong but was the last time Mick and Joe appeared on stage together not a benefit gig for striking firemen?
I think Joe would, like me, prefer people to stand by their trade union and not engage in puerile attempts to denigrate it.
Me - an embarrassment to the memory of Joe? :Aye right.

Very stupid post clashcity' .
Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
Mine is the Union have been very disorganized , and like 2007 last time round , have wasted an opportunity.
I feel p*ssed off losing all that money and am pretty sure calling off the strike when they did will make things alot more difficult for us now.
I will of course carrying on backing the Union but I feel the criticism is fair in this case and maybe healthy in the long run?
P.S will we be advised to vote yes to a sh*t deal , like last time I wonder . :funneh
