Re: Sorting?
Ahh but can you be prep tested on IPS if you are on a delivery only 25hr contract?
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

When that happens everyone just dives on the IPS and we get it done in one big scramble.
I don't, I start at 6:45. But i know what turns up on the first lorry because its waiting for me when i get in.

Re: Sorting?
I used to tell them to sod off. Our office has always been based on 6 hours per day part time or 8 hours full time including 2 hours IPS.
Once you explain to them that you don't know the sorting and have had no training and will thus do about 5 letters per minute they often give up. You can't refuse but if you know you won't complete your delivery you can ask them which bit to leave.
For months I was sorting business replies (freepost etc) and not charging for them, we must have lost thousands in revenue! Still, if I'd had some training I'd have known what a business reply was.

Re: Sorting?
Would any laws apply to a part timer ( permanant or fixed term ) that does not earn O/T rate or S/A rate from the end of their contracted hours until they reach and exceed 40hrs worked - I know it was agreed with the union years back ( with FT in a vast majority voting on that particular agreement, thinking "How's that going to affect me?" if they thought of it at all ). I ask because I do OT to make up money, and for my first 5 hrs I get SSPR OT (wingmanchillian wrote:the fixed term contract act 2002 clearly states that if your on a fixed term contract ie 3 monthly, 12 monthly etc.. you cant do the same job as somebody else that has a more favourable contract. pretty much if your on a part time contract and you go in and do ips plus prep your walk and deliver it but only get say 30hrs per week while somebody else is doing the same but gets 40hrs per week it would breach that employment law.
Edit http://www.opsi.gov.uk/sr/sr2002/20020298.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <--- worth the read if you are on a fixed term contract.
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Re: Sorting?
Tbh fella im not to sure on that one. i know at my place people on a 30 that were doing SA's had the SA hours paid at normal rate until they hit 40 then they got OT. Im pretty sure this was the case even if they did 10hr OT and 10hr SA's. the highest rate (SA) would always be used at normal rate to get you to 40hrs. Morally id say you have a case but legally probably not as it seems to be standard practice.smokerjim wrote:Would any laws apply to a part timer ( permanant or fixed term ) that does not earn O/T rate or S/A rate from the end of their contracted hours until they reach and exceed 40hrs worked - I know it was agreed with the union years back ( with FT in a vast majority voting on that particular agreement, thinking "How's that going to affect me?" if they thought of it at all ). ), but if I'm getting a lower rate, I am at a disadvantage to my FT colleagues, despite working my contracted hrs just as they do
i know getting to CAB(citizens advice bureau)can be a pain and pretty much an unpleasant experience but if you can put an afternoon aside, or if yours do it make an appointment i think it would be worth the trip. seriously they have helped me many a time.
sorry for semi hi-jacking another thread btw i know im a nightmare for it

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Sorting?
When I was getting hassle they told me they were going to prep test me. That was their feeble attemt to worry me. I called their bluff and said on you go but I'm not employed by RM to sort, the managers face was a picture. Never did get that prep test.POSTMAN wrote:Wouldn't of thought so as you dont do it in your duty.IPS wrote:Ahh but can you be prep tested on IPS if you are on a delivery only 25hr contract?

Re: Sorting?
I am on a 32.5hr contract and we have to do IPS for 30 min from 7.50am to 8.20am each day. Which sometimes especially on busy days can be a pain in the rear as I arrive at work at 7.30 which only gives 20mins to start throwing my walk up before IPS and more times than any especially lately they expect more than 30mins which causes upheavel in our office.

Re: Sorting?
If its a exceptionally busy day / the lorry is late then I would think it reasonable for part timers to muck in and help out on the IPS, I cant see what the problem is.

Re: Sorting?
because why should RM's problem of a van being late or it being an exceptionally busy become my problem...the managers get paid to sort these kind of problems out I don't and most of the time even get told I cannot book if I go over so I think I speak for the majority of full timers as well as part timers when I say it isn't our problem when we have done our time on IPS then it's the managers problem.razor wrote:If its a exceptionally busy day / the lorry is late then I would think it reasonable for part timers to muck in and help out on the IPS, I cant see what the problem is.

Re: Sorting?
The simple fact is, if the sorting isnt done, you aint going anywhere until it is.
The sooner its done, the sooner you can get away.
PTers at my place clearing down 5 letters every couple of minutes, in between chats and swigs of coffee, while there are yorks of mail waiting to be hand sorted, gets right up my nose.
