Wont be tricky for me, even when ive had a regular walk ive never got more than £20-£30.KyzaSoze wrote:Think the tips are gonna be a tricky one this year with folk who were against us going on strike not wanting to tip, then on the other hand the tipper's who will go out of their way to tip us known we do a damn good job & have lost out on pay recently , personally on my walk which i've done for 7 years, everyone off my punters i spoke too said they backed what we where striking for, which can only be a good thing.. Last year was a disappointing year for tips due to the recession just before Crimbo, but hey free booze & chocolates make up for it thou.. Friend of a colleague who's a Postie in a different branch who got tips would buy them a Lottery Lucky dip ticket n pop it in a Crimbo card which a thought was a nice touch, thou a wonder if them punters would be honest to come forward n say something if they got a big win or would they fcuk off to Australia n leave a tip lol

Re: Christmas Tips
You know, now that I think about it, I was one of only FOUR in my office to respect the strike, and the ONLY one on the last picket line.
So f**k it, if anyone leaves a tip for the regular guy on a day I'm doing his round, it's going in my pocket to buy me some warm socks for the picket line come january, when we will be back on strike but my "colleagues" are scabbing away in a nice warm office.

Re: Christmas Tips
I used to do really well on my pre-TDS walk. Did it for about 8 years, everyone knew me, knew when my kids were born etc. Used to get not too far short of £200, plus wine, beer, chocs, etc.
On my post TDS (single delivery) I never got more than about £20 or £30, in fact last year was even worse, despite me being on that walk for five Christmases.
I'm now on a driving job, so don't really hold much hope. Might get lucky with a couple of the regulars perhaps.
Best one I heard of was someone who did a rural job, taking in a few big farms, manor houses etc. Used to get bags of cash, not to mention fine wines, braces of pheasants, turkey, you name it really.

Re: Christmas Tips
Sounds about right. To the original poster I would say pocket anything adressed as 'postie' but collect anything else more personal, like a named 'postie' and hand it to them next day.opgpat wrote:After 4 years in job most I've had at xmas time is £15.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.

There's a guy in our office has been doing his round since it was built 20+years ago and he gets around 400 each year.

Re: Christmas Tips
The key is to send all your customers a Christmas Card
I was only about 4-5th highest in our DO for tips
and the round was empty for 6 months before i took it.

I don't usually see my postie either as he delivers after I've gone to work but I leave a card with a fiver in itneilf wrote:I want to give my postman a Christmas box just to say thanks and acknowledge that not only does he do a good job, he's had a pretty rough year!
Problem is, I don't see him too often even though I know what he looks like.
Was just wondering what the best way of giving him a card would be?
taped to my letter box and addressed to 'Postman'. My door is not within easy sight of anyone else who does
not come right up to it, so I hope he gets it alright. I leave a similar card for my binmen taped to the back
of my wheelybin.

Re: Christmas Tips
To be perfectly honest, I don't expect much from the round I'm on now this year compared to the last couple which were very good for tips, due to the type of area it is. That being said its never really bothered me one way or another if I get any or not, I know I'm doing a good job it may not seem that to some customers but that's what following RM rules means.
As far as sharing with your relief goes the last couple of years I had a set relief so i did share but this year its anyone who stands still long enough covers my day off or its lapsed.

Re: Christmas Tips
One guy in my office, who's been on a round for a few years, got just over TWO THOUSAND pounds last christmas in tips. I didn't beleive it at first, but it's been verified by a few others in my office.
Needless to say, he guards his round religiously and hasn't taken a day off in months....
Bastard.
