aspergers and Me

Post by SeriousSam »

As some of you may have read, i have aspergers. I tend to be open and admit my illness to people, most of whom are okay with me and we make friends but some are different. Girls seem to like aspergers but boys dont.

I work at a RM base in the North (im not telling which one because people have told me managers watch this and it will be obvious who i am as i tell everybody i have aspergers). Some people think this illness makes people nasty but it doesnt, sometimes we are just misheard and get lost in communication misunderstanding. having aspergers is like having a cloud of cold about your head and a sticker of shame on your back (which you cannot see and do not notice it is there). I have been told i have and i am an assburger on other forums but i do not find this mis-spelling funny or entertaining. thanks.

here is some infomation links for you to read if you want to be my friend also please pm me.

if there is anything you would like to ask me relating to aspergers and Me please pm me or make a reply in this thread

thank you for not judging me before knowing the facts

please do not let this be a reason to stop viewing my posts as that would be discrimination

I'd like to know, do you as individual want to be treated like everyone else or do you want to be treated differently, example could be more time of the primary etc. ????

I don't agree with people name calling you. Tell them to stop, if not report to manager and put in a complaint.

To SeriousSam
Aspergers as i understand just means you communicate with others in a slightly different way,it does not mean there`s anything wrong with you at all.All of us are different in so many ways and no-one has the right to call you names because of it.On these and other forum pages i see posties from evrywhere complaining about bosses attitudes and the lack of respect they`re treated with,You Sam are entitled to be treated with the same dignity and respect as everyone else regardless of their position and if you`re not then you have as much right as anyone to complain to..your manager,,union rep,,look for the helplines that are available such as the bullying and harrasment helpline(number on payslip). As for the people that criticise?well just remember its not you that has a problem but them who lack the knowledge or understanding to be able to cope with difference.Glad to say we`re not all the same

Hi Sam,

My gf works with someone with Aspergers and seems to be lots of people with it these days. It's a nice idea for you to give people the opportunity to learn more about the condition as we might work beside someone with it!

Hope you find this forum uesful but obviously be aware some people might misunderstand some of your posts so be prepared to explain further if they get the wrong message.

My eldest son was diagnosed when he was 7 with aspergers and the doctors have recently confirmed what they suspected last year that he also suffers from ADHD. Until you have experienced it on a personal level, i don't think you can fully understand its complexities.

Welcome Sam I have no bother with you or your syndrome ( I also think I have some of the symptoms, but I doubt I have AS.....it probably has more to do with depression than AS ) lots of people at RM have health problems that don't affect their ability to do a job, whether it's AS, bi-polar, depression, deafness, joint or muscle injuries, etc - if you can do the job properly, and you're not a cnut in the workplace, who should care? Not me  :dance

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
