Re: THE AGREEMENT
I know that at some point Dave and his pal Billy have got to come to some kind of way forward(sic) with RM management but you have to ask yourself this..
We have a management structure who have claimed, from the top to the bottom that they have achieved the best quality of service targets in a long time. But how were they achieved?
There is curently around 30 RM managers suspended on grounds of fraud and deception. This is how they achieved those targets..by cheating and lying.
These are the type people who the union now want us to trust and to move forward with..in the words of Ricky Tomlinson...

Re: THE AGREEMENT
Why the CWU and mainstream media did not make this a BIG story during the strikes is beyond me..it proves exactly what is wrong within RM..BRAVEHEART09 wrote:I know that at some point Dave and his pal Billy have got to come to some kind of way forward(sic) with RM management but you have to ask There is curently around 30 RM managers suspended on grounds of fraud and deception. This is how they achieved those targets..by cheating and lying.

Re: THE AGREEMENT
I dont actually know what most of you was expecting, if you thought Royal Mail were suddenly going to raise the white flag you were always on a loser. For me the interim agreement gives every office that has had a revision imposed on them the right to go back and revisit those revisions. It also puts an end to people being taken off of pay and it also puts an end to work being shipped to the scab depots and the use of casuals before our people. What happens next is very much down to local discussions , personally if we reenter talks and get nowhere then we will be invoking our local ballot which the document clearly allows us to do. It was higson that said there was no going back on change , well the fact we can now revisit the imposed revisions clearly is going back on change.
The document doesnt resolve all of our problems and i will reserve judgement until i see the final document and what the reward package gives us but its a start and gives all offices the right to put right some of the stuff that has gone on in the last few months.
As for this stuff about xmas, so what if we strike after xmas , a lot of the big posters that post mailsort dont even post during xmas, Mrs Jones's xmas card being held up in the post has no real impact on Royal Mail , its the large posters that have the impact and they tend to post all year round so personally i couldnt care less whether we strike before xmas or after xmas.

Re: THE AGREEMENT
Just because RM break a agreement does not mean the agreement is no good.
We would do well to remember that.

Re: THE AGREEMENT
That is probably the most banal statement I have ever seen - if the agreement is not enforceable so that BOTH sides are bound by its ramifications what good is it? Well it would be true to say that it could be held up as a BAD example of a negotiated agreement that doesn't work.Big Daz wrote:Just because RM break a agreement does not mean the agreement is no good.

Re: THE AGREEMENT
To be bound up by it would mean making a legal contract ora cahnge in the law so agreements can become legally binding.
How do you judge a good agreement though,by the words in the agreement or wider criteria?

Re: THE AGREEMENT
The wider criteria being IF IT WORKS and it clearly doesn't - a chocolate fireguard looks like a fireguard, stands in front of a fire and melts - is it a good fireguard? Of course it isn't because it clearly doesn't fulfil its purpose.Big Daz wrote:To be bound up by it would mean making a legal contract ora cahnge in the law so agreements can become legally binding.

Re: THE AGREEMENT
The words in this interim agreement are good. However the test will be whether Royal Mail will move when we meet locally and nationally.
I have personally for the first time in months had two invites to meetings with the regional directors in London and Thames valley they will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, we will know then if Management are going to resolve all the imposed revisons. That is the test of the agreement.
Now some of the posters on here would think we have sold out , but what were they looking for from a deal. When We starting striking in London we did so against imposed revisions and in persuit of national agreements.
Now the words do say we now need to reach an agreement on all the local issues including the number of jobs , attendances , earnings ,resigns and MTSF issues. That is a massive climb down considering what managment have stated from Crozier down. Yes the test is whether they are serious but we will know within a few days.
Now some people think we have signed an agreement to a strike free period that is not true. What we have signed in 1.6 is a two week review where if we do not believe they are taking things seriously then we will continue strike action. Now the words of the 2 week review is that progess is being made in the bigger talks and that agreements are reached in the local disputes. The PEC agreed an ammendment that the following amendment.
Royal Mail will be informed that should they fail to adhere to the spirit and intent of this agreement and the paragraphs contained within it, the CWU will no longer be committed to suspend all national and local industrial action.
Early next week Royal Mail and the CWU will decide who will be the independent person who will ensure that both sides keep to the agreement. There are 3 people in the frame which include John Edmunds the former GMB General secretary.
Now those who believe that Royal Mail will drag their feet and simply buy time till after Christmas clearly have not read the fact that under 1.2 Royal Mail cannot impose any further change whilst negotiaitions are going on. So if they drag their heels past christmas then all their budgets will be blown as they cant impose revisons in january as they previously planned.
Now in terms of the bigger deal t tell me when have we had such good words on such things as the following
IMPROVED JOB SERCURITY -MAINTIAING A PREDOMINATELY FULL TIME WORKFORCE
A NEW AND IMPROVED REWARD AND BENEFITS PACKAGE- INCLUDING WORKING HOURS. I know that we are talking of a 35 hour week and improving our pay by 15% in the first year.
A comphensive national agreement covering all aspects of delivery including Geo route, Saturdays (less saturdays ) d2d and every issue involved in delivery offices including absorbtion.
In addition we have stopped the current issue of indivuduals being taken off pay. Royal Mail have confirmed they will close the casual sites down other then the ones they have used for chirstmas operations. The agreement also restores normal overtime arrangments back.
Plus they have committed to returning all work back to its parent office a massive climbdown again considering that in London mail centres all the outward work was being diverted outside London.
On top of this a joint project will external support will review bullying and harrassment. Trevor Philips of the CRE will oversee part of this.
Last but not least that the number of indivduals who were targeted as a result of this dispute will be protected and in the main dealt with informally. I know of at least 15 reps in London who will now sleep a little more comfortable that they will now not be sacked.
So my view is that the words of this interim agreement are good the test now is that we now find out whether Royal Mail mean what they agreed if not we will be back on stirke within two weeks.
I am proud of the loyalty that our members have done this far and yes some will believe it to be a letdown but at some stage you do need to understand that you need to get around the table and find out are they going to restore earnings , improved attendances and duties.
If and when their is a final agreement there will be a conference and you the members will have a vote on it.
