Fantastic idea mate, but RM can not be trusted so the idea is a no goer!!!
Trust and faith in RM is something I do not have, they have a very long way to go to get that back!!!

Re: is it time to call of strikes ??
Striking does pay. Have a look at our past disputes in 1988 we went out against regional pay (DRAS )we were out 3 weeks all out, we came back with £13.87 and £18.31 in London £20 for other areas and national pay bargaining in place. That money is still in our wage packets today.
In 1996 we went out against the employee agenda which wanted team working , cuts in full time jobs , new ways of working , monthly pay ,and the then removal of most elments of pay allowances. We defeated it which was the object of the strike. We then had the way forward come in which was without teamworking and some of the worst elements were removed. Plus basic pay did improve plus for the first time all our pay was pensionable plus allowances were paid when on annual leave and sick leave for 2 months. PLus annual leave was increased.
In 2003 the National union got a no vote but London delivered a yes vote and took 2 days strike action before the biggest unofficial action since the miners dispute broke out where London and other offices around England went out. This led is to the agreement which introduced the biggest pay rise in history in the post office £26.28 plus the 5 day week was introduced in all offices for the first time. In addition the biggest rise in London weighting was secured.
In 2007 Royal Mail intially wanted 27 strings which included monthly pay , removal of d2d payments , 2 hours before or after work flexibility. In the end we got a deal which was supported by the membership which removed those strings and put in a 7% pay rise and two £400 payments.
This dispute is without doubt the most important ever as if we dont win you will not have a full time job in the future and your pay and conditions will be slashed as well as your pension removed.
The choice is stark either strike and fight for your future or go into work and let Royal Mail see you're weak and not prepared to fight for a future. Royal Mail will simply rip your job and conditions apart as they never show any loyalty.

Yes, but apart from that, what have the Romans ever done for us ?

At least some here have their heads screwed on!
How much did those ads in the Star newsapaper cost, just to influence the few less educated as to the reasons/outcomes of the strikes?
They were prepared in London by RM's ad agency to sway the undecided.

You'll lose more than you can have night mares about if you don't sit this one out. I'm a customer and have no link with the Royal Mail except that we all have the same boss - HM QE2. Don't worry about my mail being late, Crozier won't.

dimble - I'm an ex postie/driver 10yr, now a 'customer' , you are correct! Unfortunately, the way of the world is to not let little matters like unagreed reforms, incessant bullying by managers *(coming from the top)*, etc., muddy the waters...with the smokescreen of modernisation being lauded by the Royal Mail btw!
Unfortunately, the press/media don't like getting into the facts of the matter, just the actions/consequences!
Well said!

Postie should not give in until we have a firm agreement on our terms and conditions and future pay. All those posties that are saying that we should go back to work need to open their eyes because they do not know what future plans RM has for us, why give in when you do not know what is going to happen to the business.

Postie Pat----like yourself, I have been with the company a long time, and been on many fruitless strikes-posty pat wrote:are you not allowed to have a differing opinion on this forum. all i am saying is that i have worked for this company for a long time and been on loads of strikes
i cannot remember one instance when i have returned to work and thought, that was really worth the effort.
people who dont believe me remember the strikes in 1996 and then what was agreed by the union in the way forward agreement
there was a time we were coming out for the most ridicilous of reasons, this strike is is not like the others--we are fighting
for our very survival.
