Spot on, and to answer this and mmax together, I think trust can be rebuilt between the blue army & local management either by middle management permitting it by easing the pressure ( not likely imho ) or by RM implementing draconian measures to reduce the ration of managers to staff, and if it isn't already too late there will be many OPGs with long memories.

I don't like our new DOM but the old one was more than fair. The Line managers are absolutely fine, to my knowledge there is no B&H by any of them in our office. We've had absorbing/banking hours/Pegasus/tabletop revision etc etc and it's been ok, though there are obviously more cuts ahead, the same as evey other office.

Not all offices are full of lying, bullying managers.

I'm prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to the man - he might have done the above, but there can be a world of difference between forcing, demanding and shutting out subordinates from decisions or discussing it with the unit rep, calling staff to a meeting to get their opinions and involving them and getting their help. I'm not saying he has done any of the above, but he has been open about his job title, is worried just as much as we are the way the job is going, and hasn't viewed posting here as an opportuinty to laugh or insult us

If this was a poll it would be 99% NO! There is probably a few and i mean a few good managers out there that can manage.

Exactly that cow post and as you have already identified good managers manage, bad managers bully. Bullies bully to hide their weakness and inadequacy, and to divert attention away from their incompetence. Most employers don't want to calculate the cost of low morale, poor productivity, poor customer service, high sickness absence, high staff turnover and frequent grievance and legal action that are a consequence of "tough dynamic management".
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

Reading through you threads makes me mad I am a dom and i treat my staff with respect and in a way that i would like to be treated.
I must admit RM has serious issues with bad managment, and how they are going to sort it out is another issue
But at the end of the day its all to do with people, if someone treats you with respect and is fair you are going to react the same way
and thats whats missing on behalf of some management respect, fairness, honesty.
still maintain that TRUST is a big part off working together once that is gone its gone for good !! you dont have to get on with each other but you need to believe you are not going to be lied to just to keep you quiet ,
RM have forgotten one thing , if you are treated fairly and with respect you tend to go the extra mile when asked a sort of Quid-pro-Quo. Conversely when treated with contempt, condescension ("our people" :Sick ), arrogance and daily B&H whether perceived or real, most people will either dig their heels in, and if not cause problems, they certainly wont try their hardest to sort it out.
Yes, you are right. With Good mamagement you would burst a gut for them---not this lot,
how i would love to be a fly on the wall at one of their training courses, and see what they are taught about 'Man Management"

mmax understand the scathing comments are about our dom's. you have come on here and spoke openly and what you say makes sense, i can respect that. it is because of what we experience every day with the bad managers that these comments are posted. someone mentioned have you made cuts etc, you probably have. it's not your decision, you have a job to do like the rest of us. it is the way these cuts are implimented, willingly, at all costs and at my office by lying, harrassment and bullying. most people are a good judge character, benefit of the doubt and all that. i can tell you that my dim's only concern is money and looking good to his masters, he is a proven liar. if my dom lies to me just to get what he wants, i will confront him, the good thing about bullies is they crumble when confronted. the bad news is they will pick on people who are less able to defend themselves and pass your name on as a troublemaker. the people at the top want sacking for allowing and encouraging the regime of bullying and harrassment to continue. someone else mentioned the only good dim he knew had been moved sideways. i have come into contact with about 10 royal mail managers and the only reasonable [nice person actually] one was kicked out of his office and now seems to be some kind of reserve, being moved from office to office. the job was done when he was in charge but obviously he wasn't the kind of man royal mail wants, which speaks volumes really.

The present DOM seems OK and comes across as reasonable and caring. The line manager acts like some sort of concentration camp guard.I can't help thinking they have gone for a good cop/bad cop thing. So I do not trust either.

Hi Axeman, Up to now we have done and agreed what is achievable & realistic, what RM want is unrealistic we have taken out hours and where possible i have been able to increase part time hours, but there is only so much you can take out in a DO.

I have stood up to my bosses I, and my staff are not going to be walked over and all the staff know that, that's why they don't mind doing what is achievable

Hi Stokes, that’s the unfortunate thing some doms just think of themselves earning ect going up the ladder, than working as a team that is it
My main job as a dom is to support and look after the staff making sure they are all ok they have everything they need

I have stuck my neck out for the staff and they know I have, that’s why we get on I have a great respect or them. if RM ask for 100 hours out I will sit down with the staff explain that’s what they want, what can we do in the real world, that’s what we have done this and next year

I am still in a job how long for I don’t know but while I am I am going to enjoy working with my staff it is a great atmosphere in the morning bit of banter, jokes the job gets done, and you know what people don’t mind going that extra mile and neither do I because we are a team.
